In 2007 I was prescribed AMLOVASC 5Mg to reduce my BP and Aspirin to protect against DVT. After taking the medication for 22 days, I started having bad hallucinations day and night, such as animals inside me. I felt that the problem must be the Aspirin, since I had taken BP tablets for 10 years prior and stopped the Aspirin. There was no real improvement , I visited my GP and changed from Amlovasc to Losarten. After 2 months the hallucinations subsided. In 2008, my BP increased dramatically and I was admitted to hospital overnight for investigation. BP dropped but was still too high and visited my GP (my normal GP was on holiday) so inadvertedly was given Amlovasc 5 Mg again. Unfortunately, I had not noted the original medication name, since I believed Aspirin was the cause of the problem in 2007. After 22 tablets again the same symptoms returned. I immediately stopped taking the Amlovasc and it took 2 months approx. to return to normality. GP said she believed it was calcium-based tablets that don't agree with me and I returned to Losarten and this was supplemented by Bendroflumethiazide 2.5Mg. In 2009, the hallucinations in a milder form returned making me depressed and making me believe I'm going crazy. Is there anyone who can help?

I'm not sure what all your meds are with the exception of losartan which I have taken. You need to get the package insert at your pharmacy (not the pharmacy printout.) Write down all the ingredients of the meds which you have taken in the past 6 months. Weed out the differences in ingredients.
My mother got some hullcinations from b/p meds. Beta blockers are some potential drugs that can cause this. I got nightmares from one called Inderal. Fam
This is how I found out that yellow dye # 6 was the cause of my problems. Don't wait for your DR's or pharmacists to do this for you. For example, I had an allergic reaction to HCTZ in the pill form yet I did fine with the dye free powdered HCTZ.

Thanks for info'. As for the drugs, the generic term for Amlovasc in US I believe is Amlodipine or Norvasc. Were the hallucinations to do with animals, especially rodents?, were they day and night? and after stopping taking the medication for 8 months, did they return, but not so severe? Thanks for your help
