I was on Diovan HCT for 2 years. My doctor switched me to to Lisinopril because my insurance changed and I asked if there was a cheaper drug I could take. I had good results on the Diovan (160/95 when started on it and was steadily at 120/70 while on it). He started me on the Lisinopril 25 at first but by the morning of the 3rd day my BP was down to 80's/60's consistently(even hit 79/52 once!). I was also having these weird shooting pains/pricklies in my head and felt too funky to do my regular jogging.
I called the doctor and he lowered my dosage to 10 from the 25. Now, after 4-5 days on it, my BP is back up to 100-110/high 60's most of the time.
All that being said, I'm still having some trouble jogging. I went last night and had to walk a good part of the 2 miles. I really can't describe how it felt as I wasn't really dizzy but just not "in myself" is the only way I know to describe it. I hate to go back to the Diovan because it costs me $110 and the Lisinopril is only $4! Do I just need to give the Lisinopril more time? Any thoughts?

Lisinopril is an Ace Inhibitor, a different class of drug. Maybe that's why your getting different side effects. DIOVAN is an Angiotensin Blocker. Ask your insurer if there's another drug in the same class that you can substitute. Maybe Cozaar is available at a lower price. Cozaar is similar to Diovan. Lisinopril like other Ace Inhibitors has a tendency to produce a dry nagging cough.

OK, it's $51 a month but doesn't have the HCTZ component. So does that mean a 2nd drug for that and thereby eliminating the better price? I mean, I liked the Diovan and it worked great - no problems there. It was just the cost.

If you are alsready taking HCTZ and need to continue than HYZAAR is Cozaar + HCTZ. and Diovan also has an HCTZ available..

My previous doctor had me take Lisinopril but after three dosages it gave me a feeling like my chest was on fire. He then prescribed Diovan, which worked pretty darn good although I didn't think that I needed any BP meds at all. At each office visit my BP would be in the current pre-hypertension range.
One morning my BP was 96/66 and I stopped taking them and the highest known BP that I have had in 5 months, without BP meds, is 126/82. I think I got the CYA "liability" BP prescription from my former doctor.
