I was visitng Wichita KS from FL on business back in september of 2000,,When I got back to FL I notcied a puncture with a thought to be brusie around it( i shrugged it off). A bit after I noticed symptoms of tingling( almost a sensation of having icey hot in the entire in the penis and scrotum area, then soon to be followed by tingling in the feet almost a constatnt cold sensation. It is now July and I have seen everyone from STD'docs to Vascular docs to MS and Neurological Docs. No one has an answer. My mri's are normal except a slight abnmormal spot, which they think could be from trama years ago. They say it could be MS maybe Lyme..but my titers are between 82-88 I have had a few. Thnis means its not negative but not positive either. My relflexes are called brisk by doctors but that is the only symptoms inline really with MS, along with the tingling in the groin and Feet(cold annoying sensation)I am a 29 yo Male in good physical health other than this,, Any advice or suggestions would be great. I think Im flying to Mt Sanai in NY for A spinal to try to help answer my questions. Has anyone heard of having Lyme even thpugh only registering an 82-88 not the 1.0 associated with Lyme. Has anyone heard of these symptoms at all???
Thanks

None of your symptoms sound like lyme disease. Lyme disease is an acute inflammatory disease characterized by skin changes, joint inflammation, and flu-like symptoms. You get sicker and sicker if not treated.
I could be MS. MS is difficult to diagnose. Each episode scars your brain more, so at the beginning its hard to tell. I would take your MRI's that you say have a slight abnormal spot to a different neurologist and discuss whether this is really an old scar thing or the beginnings of MS.
Tingling or nerve changes/sensations can be alot of things
local injury to the nerves under the skin
lack of blood supply to the area
pressure on the nerves, caused by a herniated disk, tumors, abscesses or arthritic bones
toxic action on nerves (lead, alcohol, tobacco)
diabetes and other chemical abnormalities
vitamin B-12 deficiency
hypothyroidism
drugs such as chemotherapeutic agents, chloroquine, D-penicillamine, isoniazid, nitrofurantoin, parenteral gold therapy and phenytoin
long-term radiation
transient ischemic attack (TIA)
stroke
multiple sclerosis (a less common cause of numbness)

Lyme disease, caused by a spirochete known as Borrelia burdorferi(Bb), is a great mimicker of other diseases, inclusing MS. You should get tested for the DNA of Bb and not just the serology titers. Ifg positive, then you know you have it for sure and it is not MS. Tests for MS are inconclusive.

docb is absolutely correct. lyme can mimic over 200 other diseases. often the sickest people test negative. also, there are different tyes of spirochettes, that cause different symptoms. I have read of sypmtoms like you describe. everyone has a different story to tell. i will try to find a link that describes similar to yours. there are alot of great lyme sites (cheryl's lyme page to start).

Recently, a patient was treated in Switzerland that had classic waxing and wanning symptomes characteristic of MS. He had chronic lyme disease. Six weeks post intracellular hyperthermia at the Aekulap clinic, all symptoms of CLD have resolved. Don`t give up hope.
