i gave my boyfriend oral sex whilst i had a coldsore then around four days later he started to feel very sore and within days got worse and his penis was cracked could not pull his foreskin back and had slight blisters.

He has taken a canistan tablet two days ago and now symtons have started to go and is no longer feeling as sore and blisters have gone.he has visited a doctor who told him he had caught a sore from my mouth and told him if systoms got worse to go back to him as it could be genital herpes! i am now worried that i have given him this condition from my coldsore.. please can you advise on this??

I guess you learned the hard way that cold sores are herpes and you shouldn't be giving anyone oral sex when you are having an active outbreak...because yes you did give your boy friend genital herpes. The good news is that it is type 1 and there is a good chance he will never have another outbreak or only 1 a year for a few years and that is it. You cannot re-infect him so you don't have to worry about giving him oral sex again but if you have a new boyfriend you will have to let him know. It is possible to spread oral herpes while not having an outbreak but it doesn't happen that often. It is very contagious during an outbreak.

Read up on cold sores and oral herpes so you can protect others. Also realize oral herpes is very common, 80% of adults have it but many do not know it since they never get outbreaks.

that is exactly how i got genital herpes.
not to be contradictory, but i have hsv-1 genitally, and i know the literature says that results in fewer outbreaks, but i had about one per month for several months, and they're only now starting to taper off with the use of lemon balm- even so, i've had a few prodromes.

Your bf is best off getting checked out and tested to be sure, even though it's very likely he has it. Then you both can make decisions about Valtrex or whatever.

that's rough! like everyone else has said it's probably best he go ahead and get tested to confirm that he has anything at all.

you didn't realize that cold sores were a form of herpes?

matter of fact u said that he can not get reinfected....I was diagnosed with H in 2005 and am currently wondering about autoinocculation where it can spread to other areas of the body. I get outbreaks on my butt and vagina but the ones on my butt worry me most. I am worried about autoinocculation (to other parts of my butt) in this area. what do you think???
