When I open and close my mouth, there is a crunching sound as if the bones are crunching together at the joint in the back of my jaw below my ear. There is no pain yet, but is some swelling. I have an appointment with a specialist, but was wondering if anyone knows what actions/treatment would be suggested for this? Has anybody else had these symptoms?
thanks

Did it happen suddenly or has been developing for a while?
Obviously you should check your jaw. They can do a Doppler test, an x-ray, and if something more serious with the disk is suspected, a CtScan or an MRI.
Did it start after a dental work? Or from biting onto smth?

I'm not sure when it started. I have had so much dental work it's crazy. Root canal city etc. etc... But it's just this bone on bone crunching sound toward the rear of my jaw below my ear. It even made the dental assistant cringe?!
something is not right, but hopefully like you said some sort of mri or something will show what needs to be done.
