I haven't had this for all that long but I'm wondering if everyone gets OBs in different locations on their body? Mine are in different locations within the genital area. I have been very very careful to wash my hands and wash twice as much during OBs. I even use a non-soap wash for my genital area and soap for the rest of my body. Anyone have any ideas as to why they show up in different spots? Or is this just a normal part of the disease?

From what I understand, since it "lives" in the nerve bed then it can come to the skin's surface in any area that that part of the spinal cord services.

But then why is it concentrated in the vaginal area. And why isn't it on my arms. Now I know people say that it likes the mucus areas of the body but mine aren't in the inner vagina....instead are out side where there aren't mucus membranes.
All very confusing. However I am very grateful that my "episodes" don't last very long and come and go relatively quickly.
Anyone have any other information? Do other people get them in different spots. I am very very careful not to spread them. And am almost obsessed with washing my hands and being very very careful. I have a separate towel for my face and one for the rest.
Thanks to everyone who has answered my questions. The support and education is so precious to me!

My OB's are also in the genital area but not inner vagina. The sores are all in the same general *area* but not on the same exact spots every time. Honestly, it seemed totally normal, so I never questioned it at all. I've never had sores on my butt, but if I suddenly got them, I'd probably ask my doctor what was up. In your sores are all in the same general "zone" it's probably nothing to worry about. Like the other poster said, the virus lives in the nerve cells, and travels to the skin now and again. Like you, I wash my hands thoroughly and wait out the outbreaks but otherwise don't think much of it. If you have a sore on your outer labia for one OB, and a sore half an inch away for the next OB, I don't think it's anything to be concerned about.
