Hi Curley! No, I cant say that I had depression from Rebif. I think, in the beginning of my diagnosis, and while still adjusting to the Rebif itself, I was bummed out. Not enough to stop me from everyday activities or enough for me to seek help for depression- but in the beginning, just dealing with a new disease, learning to inject, etc- was enough to make me bummed some days..it did go away as I got used to the disease and realized my life wasnt going to change.
As for sleepless nights- yes. Rebif gives me a boost of power (energy) a few hours after I take it and I found that if I take it past 7 pm, forget it. I toss and turn all night long. I was given a script for Ambien, which I try not to abuse, but when i am up for two or three nights in a row, Ill pop one just to get a good nights sleep. Now, I try to always do my shot as soon as I get home from work, and in the AM if possible...then, I have no problem with sleeplessness. I have heard from others on the drug that it can cause restlessness at night, so this isnt a new phenomenon.

Are you having real problems with this? You should talk to your doctor about it...try taking it earlier in the evening- and watch all the other things which can keep you up at night. ie. Caffeine, working out too late, sugar. Try to do some relaxation techiniques when you get to bed- relaxing your feet, your legs, your core, your arms....working your way up. Also, TV and Radio are no- nos when you are trying to unwind your brain! Stick with a quiet atmosphere or a good book.
The last thing Ive found that helps is a good cup of cammomile tea- it really does relax me when Im all wound up!
I hope you feel more like yourself soon!

Thanks Nikki, you are always a great help. I have been diagnosed over 22 years and have done every drug known to man. I have not slept well while on Rebif for 2 months and get depressed the longer the day goes. However the next day I am great. I am going back to Costa Rica Saturday for more stem cells, the last time it worked great but after 1 year my gains went away. I will let you know in a few months how it is going, it takes at least 3 months to work.

Please do let us know how you are! Im really curious to hear. Ive heard so many people say they got nothing out of it, your one of the few who thinks they are benefitting from the whole thing. I am really interested in your next experience.
Im sorry you havent been getting sleep....but maybe it has something to do with the upcoming excitement? just a thought..
Keep us posted!!

Rebif definitely contributes to sleepless nights for me. I always inject before bed, but maybe I should try it earlier.

I think Rebif also contributes to depression.

It's not the nicest med to be on but it seems to help.

Good luck!

10:00 am might be ok if you are not working.
I don't think I could do it before going to work.

I definitely get a bit of a fever from it.

Curley and Alittletired-
First of all, Im glad to help, Curley. Secondly, i inject at 6 am on allot of days, as soon as I wake up! Once you get past the side effects, which should take 3-6 months, there shouldnt be any at all. You should be able to inject, like you brush your teeth- and not think about it. Ive injected while being in a car- on an airplane (in the bathroom) and even while talking on the phone...its that easy after awhile...but, it wasnt that way in the beginning.
I hope that both of you find that doing it earlier in the day helps..I know it made a huge difference for me!
Hugs to you both.

Curly

I find rebif does give a subtle boost in the couple of hours after injection, nothing scientific here, just some casual but noticeable observations..depression..I think so. The 'depression' may not manifest in a dramatic way (for me, anyway), but I've noticed a DEFINITE change in my demeanor and how I view things; again, subtle but becoming quite noticeable over time. As far as the disease itself goes, nothing I can do about that, so I could kind of care less about that..the mood changes are the drugs, IMO. Unfortunately you can't really try a whole bunch of different treatments to test for side effects-choices are limited and in the case of rebif the same drug as Avonex.
Keep us posted on the stem cells, I'm CERTAIN we're all interested in that!
