Has anyone had pretty severe grinding and popping in joints and been successfully treated with splint therapy or some other form of therapy other than surgery ? Will this feeling ever go away? My dentist hasn't really given me any hope and I'm looking for a new doc. Any suggestions of doctors in Northern IL..I would appreciate. I have one referral and looking for a couple more for options..

I had clicking go away about a month into splint treatment and its stayed away.
Dentist increased the vertical dimension creating more space for the disc to recapture. I'm proof that the theory works!

Hi pipdog...may I ask how long your jaws were clicking when you began splint therapy? I am going on 5 weeks since I noticed this issue. Also did you click on side to side movement? I hear recapture is difficult if you are displaced to side more so than anteriorly. ty

Ty

My normal drill and fill dentist noticed that there was a clicking about 8 months before I started into splint therapy although I think it was developing well before this.

Yeah I was told that discs displaced to the side are harder to treat than when they go to the front. I had my scans read by two different radiologist, first said displaced to the side, the second said no displacement so it's not an exact science - you're kind of just going on opinions. Anyway I don't have clicking any more so I would say regardless of what they say about disc displacement direction a splint trial is worth it
