Hi i recently took penicillin prescribed by my GP after taking it i suffered a very bad reaction to it, but i have taken amoxcillin in the past few years why did i not react to the amoxcillin then? Doctors just said im strange! anyone with any answers?

You aren't strange - you are very normal. We aren't always born with certain allergies. You develop them and you've developed one to penicillin. I took it for several years with no problems and thenBOOM! Same thing happened with a ZPak...oh well. Just stay away from all the derivatives.

You are not strange at all. You can develop an allergy at anytime. Stay away from all meds with penicillin in them, though you should be fine with taking zithromax as it is entirely in a different class of meds. If you are allergic to penicillin you will be given the z-pack instead that's what it's there for and most people that are allergic to penicillin take zithromax instead and are just fine with it.
