I got my first shot yesterday, it's my last resort after trying every pill and ring to stop my cramps and heavy periods. I got it on my 1st day of my period and was wondering if it will affect my period I'm having now? It's my 2nd day which is usually my worst and it's been very light.
Also.. I heard it makes you gain a lot of weight. Is this because it increases your hunger or does it just slow your metabolism down? I haven't had any problems with any pills after people said they gained weight.
Thanks!

It's been a long time since I was on Depo, so I can't say for sure how it affected the period I had when I started it. All I can say is that I didn't get a period at all after that month for the entire duration I was on it. I did however gain about 50 pounds within the first 6 months on it....and my eating habits didn't change at all. I'm not sure if that happened because of hormonal changes, metabolism changing, or what....but it happened.

Hi,
i was on Depo quite a while ago and hated it because it made me stop my period entirely. I just felt weird not getting a period, you know? Some women don't seem to mind that, but I mind anything that sort of messes with the natural order. As far as weight gain, I know I had a little bit, but nothing out of control. 50 pounds seems a little excessive, so maybe your body didn't take to it as easily?

I know it wasn't good to my body! I had all sorts of problems after using Depo. For example....they say that it takes some time for your period to return....I'm not sure exactly how long they say it should be before you expect it to return.....that seems to change often....but mine didn't return until 5 years after my last shot!!! Yes, 5 long years!!! Then it didn't become regular until 9 years after my last injection. Depo didn't like me at all. The period issue is just one of many problems I had after using Depo.

hey, decided to use depo provera last february after trying literally every pill on the market for heavy periods and pain. depo provera worked for the pain and the heaviness. i had a normal period when i first got it, that lasted 2 weeks. i then got my next period which was light and no pain, but it lasted a month, i got my 2nd shot and last shot in may and my period continued for 5 and a half months. but i was told u just have to wait it out. my period has been stopped now for 3 weeks but i just feel that u have no cotrol over the way it goes, i would be perfectly happy to go back to the old peried than to have it again for that long. they say it is different for everyone but apparently the best method is the mirena coil, but i just dont like the sound of it, and if u havent given birth before the gyn will have to put u under a general anaesthetic, which is risky. good luck with it hopw it works for u, but i personally wouldnt recommend it!!
