My son has a writing disorder- he will be 12 in february, is brilliant, can spell orally, has finemotor skills of a 16 year old but is writing below a kindergarten level! Also runs into similar difficulty when typing. He is also just beginging to read at a third grade level, does complicated math in his head but cant tell difference between 18 and 81, the teacher says until he is working beyond a 4trh grade level it is normal for kids to switch numbers and letters around. Anyone ever have a similar difficulty?-meme

Hi there,

I see you posted a year ago, hopefully you've found the answers for your son, or are still reading these posts :)

Whoops... hit the wrong button!

My 13 y/o son has the same writing difficulties, yet has an IQ of 125. He was diagnosed with Nonverbal Learning Disorder (NLD) a couple of years ago. He's been to 2 pediatric neuologists, and they said he printing will never improve much (he prints at about a grade 1 level). They said to let him rely on computers, even though his tying is slow, and to use typing tutors or programs that type by voice command like ViaVoice to get his schoolwork done.

Hope that helps somewhat,

Violet

it could also be dysgraphia... the part of dyslexia that transfers the words to the paper... do a search on dysgraphia and you should come up with some good links
