Hi there all.
I know a lot of you have heard stories of really bad hemorrhoids, but I have been looking and I haven't seen someone describe the pain I'm going through.
Forgive me if someone has, but I really have been trying to look through past posts. My problem started a few weeks ago when once I was having a BM and it hurt, a lot. This was the first time it had ever happened to me and I didnt know what it was. The pain after that was incredibly, the hole of my butt just throbbed and throbbed. Finally I went to the emergency room where the nurse proceeded to stick her finger up my butt which made me literally scream in pain. She told me I had external hemorrhoids.
Then another nurse came back with a suppository she said wouldn't hurt at all. Is it supposed to hurt this badly when things go up your butt? I'm VERY good with pain usually but this was just unbearable. She stuck it up my butt and again I just yelled out in pain. I dont know what's wrong with me!
If I dont go to the bathroom for a few days then the pain subsides but the minute I have a BM my anus just throbs after that. Just the pain is incredibly that it actually affects my life. Even today, I had a BM and I was really happy to find that it didnt hurt at all when I went through the BM. However about 3 minutes afterwards it just started to burn and throb uncontrollably.
Please, tell me someone understands this! I really feel like i have given up hope. I've tried so many "remedies" and they all do nothing. I cant stand the pain, and its gotten to the point where I'm actually having suicidal thoughts.
Also, please dont suggest the surgery. The thread titled "Hemorrhoidectemy blues" scared me out of that one :-\

Hi - I do hear you! I am going thru something very similar. I have terrific burning after a b.m. It has been going on for almost a year. The gastroenterologist said I have "eosiniphils" in the rectal area. These are white blood cells that react to an allergy. No allergies that I know of. Sometimes one can have an auto immune response to something. I have been on different types of prednisone & they help for a few days. This last trial has been of cortisone enemas for 10 days. It has not helped. The only thing that relieves the pain is a pain pill. What have you been taking? Even anusol has not helped?

I've just been taking various creams and pads and things like that. I recently bought the H Miracle book and I've been meaning to try the remedies they suggest but I haven't gotten around to it with school and work. I'm also thinking about buying venapro, have you tried it?

Have not tried any you mention. Hopefully, one of those will work for you. I am calling the Dr. tomorrow, just using something for pain now. But the burning around the anal canal is terrific. So I can truly sympathize with you my friend. Will keep in touch.

Have you tried Americaine? It is an ointment that has the strongest pain killer OTC. You might not be able to find at your local drugstore... It might give you some relief and you can reapply as often as you need to...

I am going through the same thing as you right now (only mine is internal, but just as painful). My quality of life is being affected so much that I scheduled the hem surgery, but chickened out at the last minute. I'm only 22 and I want to die.

Could your hemmoroids be thrombosed.
I know that when your hemms get thrombosed they can be very painful and can only be fixed by some kind of doctors treatment.
But not the Hemorrhoidectemy surgery.
Maybe look up the description for thrombosed hemms.
The only thing about the above is that I am sure the nurse would have seen that they were thrombosed.

Hi - Thanks for your replies. The gastro says mine is eosinophilic (white blood cell infiltratiion) in the colon. Looks as if it is allergic to itself! I had this happen to my stomach about 25 yrs. ago. No reason for it then, either. They put me on prednisone & monitored the dosage down to nothing. No problems until this came up last year. My general doctor thought it was hemmhroids and treated me with everything for months. Then the gastro did a scope & found this. Now I have been on several types of prednisone, specific to the intestine and colon, but nothing has worked. Lots of burning, burning, and more. Today I start on oral prednisone, so keep your fingers crossed for me.
I hope there is someone out there with a similar problem. Hope is not really the right word, since I don't wish this on anyone. But if you do have something like this, I would certainly like to hear how you are doing and what treatment you are on. Thanks, all.

To the opening poster.
Are you sure that you have been diagnosed correctly? I was diagnosed with hemorrhoids but when I saw a specialist he said I had a fissure. A fissure is much more painful than hemorrhoids and throbs for ages after a crap because you usually open it up every time you go. Imagine having a cut on your finger which you forced opened every day. That would throb like hell after a while too.
See a specialist for an accurate diagnosis. If he says it's an anal fissure don't let him talk you into a lateral incision sphincterotomy which he will probably suggest. Heal yourself with correct diet, self discipline and patience. It is possible.

Look up posts that discuss an anal fissure. They might be more familiar to what you are suffering.

Nope, my dears, does't seem to be a fissure. Do not have those symptoms. The gastro, who I trust with my life, did not see anything like this when he did the scoping (sigmoid). He saw the "infiltration of eosinophils" and that is why I am on the Prednisone. Started the new regimen yesterday. 60 mgs./7 days, then tapering down. Not too bad as far as burning today, maybee????
I really appreciate hearing from you all.

Hi, here is my advice. Let me break down hemorrhoids for you. external and internal. thrombus and prolapsed. First off you would know if you had an external hemorrhoid--you would feel it and they are painful. They can be thrombus which is filled with blood. They would not hurt in the way you describe because they are on the outside. Then you have internal. They should not be painful but if they are thrombus, which they can be they are very painful, mostly with bm because it runs by them. The can become prolapsed which means come outside of the anus. Now their base would still be inside where they started they just get big enough to fall out. They can be very painful if they are thrombus.
First you need to see a colon rectal dr because reg docs are very un-knowledgeable about hemorrhoids. They can ruin your life due to the pain. You can soak and take pain meds--they do help but the best thing to do is get seen by someone who knows what they are doing. Er nurses don't have a clue--let me know how things go--good luck!!

Hi fellow sufferer. I am in the same situation. The prednisone did not work for me & haven't been back to the dr. yet. I agree with the previous reply. You do need to see a specialist (Gastroentrologist).
In the meantime, I was at another site & saw a recommendation for "Americaine" which is an anesthetic ointment. Couldn't find it under that name, but pharmacist helped me & gave me Walgreen's Pain Relieving Ointment for boils. Don't let that deter you, because it is the same only called Benzocaine ointment. Americaine is probably a European brand. It really did help soothe the pain. I realize it is just a band-aid, but it certainly did help. I used it in & around the anal area and got some relief.
Hope you get some help soon. Keep in touch.

Hello, I received a new script today for a cream--called anamantle hc cream--ingredients are lidocaine and hydrocortisone. Works well, better than the other ones I tried. Ask your doc if you could use that. It is used for both external and internal. Good luck!!

I use the Americaine...you can find at some "smaller" drugstores, but is hard to find now. I buy from * link to commercial website removed by hb-mod, moderator * ...it contains 20% lidocaine so I don't know if the Walgreens topical is as strong or perhaps stronger than this one. I know the Americaine really does help that awful pain...hope you get some relief! Suzzana
