I am a 39 year old female. I have struggled all of my life with school. I have finally decided to try Sylvan learning center for adults. Has anyone ever been successful with Sylvan???

I am really good at reading & spelling, but anything else I have problems with. One of my biggest problems is I don't comprehend things very good & I can read something & then forget what I just read http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/frown.gif
& now I have even more problems retaining anything that I read because I have fibromyalgia which causes even more problems for me.

Interesting.

I was disagonsed with LD back in grade 2. Then and now, I have accomidations which allow me to be sucessful in life and learning. Tricks as you might call them for dealing with my disability, and helps me to have a more level playing field.

I would suggest that if you think you might have an LD, to have yourself checked out. Contact your local univeristy or college and they can help you contact a specialist.

I already had testing done and the psychologist said I am fine. My I.Q. is normal. Which to me was too low. I just took a test at Sylvan and go in for my results today.

I just don't want to spend my money on something that will not help me. I already went through the bridge program at a college and wasted my money.

My son went to Sylvan for a while. It was great for him. To me, if you learn just one mechanism to cope with this, it's well worth the money. But don't expect it to "cure" you. This is something you'll be dealing with the rest of your life. Good luck.

If you are LD and want to attend college check into University of the Ozarks in Clarks*****, AR. I always struggled in school and barely graduated high school. That all changed when I started college at U of O. They hired tutors for almost every class, gave me notes for my class, provided computer, math and study specialists to help when need, and most of all support. By the second semester I was on the Dean's List. The Jones Learning Center at U of O does miracles for ones self esteem. It was the first time someone actually took the time to show me how to study.
