For a brief history, I am 24 years old. No history of gyn problems prior to 7 months ago. Initial symptoms included pressure and fullness in abdomen as well as strong/severe pain in the upper abdomen just below the rib cage. I also experienced constipation and nausea. I was diagnosed with IBS after a lot of result-less tests. Urinary symptoms (urgency and frequency) followed along with spotting and mid cycle bleeding. Yesterday I had a pelvic ultra sound that showed a complex ovarian cyst on my left ovary. The cyst shows signs of bleeding. I don't understand what any of that means. My doctor has written a script for a new birth control pill and has scheduled an appointment for a follow up ultra sound in 6 weeks to see if the cyst has changed.
In my own research today I have found that all of my symptoms match with ovarian cancer symptoms. I am nervous about waiting another 6 weeks to follow up on this, especially since I have been having symptoms for the last 7 months. What should I do? Do I need to see a specialist? I am very confused and I don't know what the next step should be. Please help with advice!

So sorry about this! I know someone who had this when she was a teenager! I think that is quite unusual? Did you tell the dr. you did not understand and to explain? That is their job. Yes, you often get an 'attitude' from the person taking the blood pressure and looking over the forms, but be persistent in knowing what you are being tested for and why.

If I were you I would request a check up sooner than 6 weeks! Ask for a week or two tops, if it is cancer every moment will count. You will get an attitude, because to them it's day-to-day business, but to you it's your life and well-being. If you get an attitude simply ask how they would treat you if you were a close relative. Good luck and please let us know how you're doing!

A complex cyst means it's not follicular or corpus luteum cyst, which are simple cysts. I also have a complex cyst in my left ovary (since a year now). Signs of bleeding could mean it's a hemorrhagic cyst, which might go away on its own in a few months (or less). Nausea & constipation can be caused by a cyst. How large is yours? Left ovarian cysts are usually resting on the sigmoid colon, which can put pressure on it and cause constipation. Nausea is not unusual with any gynecological problem.
I don't mean cancer is excluded, but I think it's most probably a non-cancerous cyst. You could have another ultrasound exam done at a different clinic/hospital, if you can; so you wouldn't have to wait long.

I've had a lot of the same symptoms without the spotting, it's been impossible getting anyone to listen to me. I'm now worried about ovarian cancer as most of my symptoms seem to match too. At first I thought they were due to a mass found on my liver that is thought to be a possible hemangioma as most of the symptoms are similar as well, but as of 2 weeks ago i've noticed I can feel a lump, more like a bulge on my right side groin area right around where my ovaries should be. It's kind of hard to describe how the lump feels but my symptoms are:
Started with nighttime nausea that turned to constant nausea
Then constant moderate to severe pain under the right rib and abdomen
sometimes the pain radiates towards my right back
constant gas with a lot of burping
bouts of diarrhea and constipation
bouts of dizziness
swelling in the right side of my abdomen
occasional feeling of pressure in my upper abdomen when I go to the bathroom (urinate and bowel) as well I feel a slight urgency to do both
quickly gained an unexplained 10 pounds despite eating even healthier than usual and forcing myself to exercise through the pain and nausea
I've even been getting occasional bouts of what feels like hot flashes but i'm only 31
My doctor tried to explain most away with IBS but I know that's not the only cause for my pain and issues, i've had 2 abdominal ultrasounds of my gallbladder/liver/spleen etc area but nothing done of my pelvic area because that never occurred to me until I found the lump/bulge.
I can't seem to get anyone to listen to me, but I am going insane and my work is suffering, I feel your pain nervouswife!!! I'm calling my doctor yet again tommorow...

Hi l am so pleased l seen this thread l was actually going to post my own!! In march it was discovered l have a 3 inch ovarian cyst (right) l was admitted into hospital in lots of pain where the thought l had appendicitis, they were actually going to take it out until l told them the pain had subsided! I have had 2 scans and the cyst at the last scan approx 5 weeks ago was still the same size. I seen the gyny first week in July. The reason l am writing is my period is anything up to 7 weeks in coming now and lve always been clockwork. However l still get the pmt which is awful at the correct time until the period does arrive. This last week has been horrible. I ahve horrendous nausea and dizziness and feel like lm going to faint everything goes bright L( I think my period has decided to arrive today 6 weeks since the last one. My query fibro symptoms are worse than usual including muscle spasms ( l have just started seeing a rheumy about these pains). I dont feel well at all roday. When l search symptoms up of ovarain cysts alot of them say other than the obvious things that really they dont interfere with hormones..... l beg to differ there! Ive had diahorea sorry cant spell it for over a week and got lansoprazole off my gp this has cleared up l also had to hand a sample in. I have also been weeing a lot too and my lower stomach has been really achy. Someone mentioned about havcing sternum area pain too! I have this as well and this has been going on for a good while but l notice it more before the period too. Some times it is relieved by going to the loo so lm thinking ibs too. Or is it the cyst is pressing on nearby structures and causing all these problems? Im pretty fed up right now l feel so rotten. Im sorry you guys are in the same boat but glad l found you all x Im guessing my cyst is harmless? as surely they wouldnt of made me wait to be seen for months???? Fingers crossed were all going to be ok!! Thanks to anyone whose read this l hope we can help one another x

I wish none of us had these problems but i'm glad you guys are here. I have no idea yet if I have an ovarian cyst, but I have a gut feeling.

a question for everyone: could you feel your cyst through the skin? I have a bulge that I can see and feel, I think someone just glancing at me wouldn't see it but if you loo for it you can see it. When you feel it it doesn't seem to have a distinct shape or hardness or anything to it. Anyone else experienced this?

Hi there :) lm not sure if l can feel mine or not lol l dont think l want too! Im having probs at moment started out like a water infect a few weeks ago.. it wasnt... then l started with diaahoreah (typo) went to docs 5 days later lower stomach pain trouble on a morning passing water then non stop weeing.. no water infection again... told to take lansoprazole to help sort stomach issues out. My lower stomach is aching its uncomfy to sit and lm getting pains sharp ones. Im trying not to do anything to aggrivate it. I keep telling the gps that l think its the cyst but they dismiss it they know nothing! My upper stomach is palying up too and my usual 'fibro symptoms'. Im wondering if the fibro symptoms are infact the cyst now! Surely it must press on other nerves etc? My periods on tis way albeit late so think l have a bit cramp too. I didnt know having cysts could give you nausea:dizzy: l felt so ill yesterday sick dizzy etc. Sorry if this is rushed but expecting a call and dont want to leave the post lol. Pm me if you need too :) What other symtpoms have you got which you thought were not related to the cyst? Take care lovely to meet you x

Hey :) hows things??? My periods have gone batty now :( lm having all the pmt and no period to speak of! I have been going 7 weeks lately but this time its 6 l think and its only there when l wipe and only a small amount weird... oh just realised when you mentioned been able to feel or see where the cyst is something l noticed a a good while ago but never connected the 2 is when l fasten my jeans ect the right side is always the side l have to pull in! If thats my cyst then gadw its been there a good while!!! Let me know how your getting on x
