I started a new pack of birth control pills today after finishing my period. I took my pill right after getting up than ate breakfast. About two and a half hours after taking my pill I vomited. How long does the pill take to leave your stomach and be absorbed by the small intestine? Also what happens if you start a pack of pills a day late?

It usually takes about two hours for the pill to be absorbed, so you should be fine as far as the vomiting goes. I don't know what pill you're on, but usually if you start the pill after your period, you start on the Sunday after it starts (Sunday start method), not on Saturday. If this is the case, it takes a week to become effective. During that week, you need to use a backup method of birth control. If you started the pack only a day late, you should be fine, just use the backup like I said. You might get some breakthrough bleeding from missing one pill, though.

Hey, thank you for the advice! I always start my pill on Saturdays so I am okay in that respect. I was just worried about it a bit and taking a backup pill would have not been a good idea since I was unable to keep anything down that day.

Thanks :)

You're welcome. :-) Actually, though, when I said 'backup method', I meant condoms, foam or something like that.
