I read up on what the FDA is doing and they are wanting to limit people's access to opiod drugs or mkae it more difficult to get prescriptions for pain medication. Please read the following article on the FDA's site:
http://www.fda.gov/OHRMS/DOCKETS/98fr/E9-8992.htm
If you are a chronic pain sufferer and on opiod/opiate medication then write a letter following the directions by June 30, 2009. I don't want to lose my access to my pain medications and I will be writing them a letter myself.

The notice is about the FDA wanting to make sure the benefits of long-acting and extended release opiods outweigh the risks (their words). There were actually some interesting things in the notice. I will definitely be writing a letter, not only about how these medications are necessary for my quality of life, but also what I think are really things that could reduce abuse of the drugs. I have worked with many drug addicts, and there are well known behaviors (which are routinely warned against on this board) that can be targeted. What is needed is a scalpel, bit a shot-gun. Let's hope the government gets it right.
