Hello,

I am a new member and i am having a upper GI done tomorrow..Im a little nervous..Can anybody tell me what to expect? How long, will I be asleep etc..

An upper GI does not require you be put to sleep, you will have to drink some barium while they do the xray. It is usually not painful, the barium can burn a little but nothing you can't handle. Hope it goes well for you.

It tastes nasty! Bring come gum to chew afterwards or your toothbrush. Yuck!

I think if they thought you had cancer they would do more the an upper GI, it can only show so much. They probably want to see if you have acid reflux.

Oh it shows all that because my doctor says it shows if you a tumor.

you are absolutely correct! The results of an upper GI series can reveal conditions such as ulcers, tumors, hiatal hernias, scarring, blockages, and abnormalities of the muscular wall of the gastrointestinal tissues.
yuck have fun drinking that nasty stuff I couldnt stop gagging lol when i had mine done

I think i had one before when they found my gallbladder stones and I had to drink a chaulk like drink. I guess what I really fear is more surgery - I had enough with the gallbladder removal. I am sick of all the test. I just hope I have something simple.:(

an ulcer i dont think would require surgery they can i believe remove it by scope!
