I had the implant in my arm on 21st April 2009.
The first couple weeks were fine but when i was due to get my period it wasnt (sorry for graphic details) normal fresh red blood it was dark brown. I have now been bleeding this dark brown blood for 4weeks now! it isnt heavy enough for a tampon but i am having to wear panty liners all the time.
This is really getting me down now
Im going on holiday in a few weeks with my friends and i really dont want to be bleeding while im away.
Does anyone have any similar experiences??
Does anyone know how long this lasts for or if it will ever stop?

Thanks <3

It is normal to have irregular, or even continuous bleeding or spotting when starting any hormonal method of birth control, especially with the method you are using. These symptoms normally stabilize within 3 months, but sometimes it can take up to a year. There has been some evidence that taking Ibuprofen or Motrin 600-800mg every 8 hours for a couple of days can stop the bleeding. If that doesn't work, you can always ask your doctor. Sometimes, they will give some supplemental estrogen to stabilize the lining of the uterus and that will usually stop it. However, the normal bleeding profile for this method is the same number of days of bleeding as you had prior to having the implant, but they may not be at the same time every month, and they may not be consecutive days. In other words irregular, sporadic bleeding is normal.
