I am asymptomatic, but tested positive for HSV 2 and I remember reading that some tests are more accurate than others. I read that Western Blot is the most accurate test, but that it's expensive and some doctors won't run it. What are my options?

My results:

HSV 2 IgG, Type Spec 3.24H

Any help you can give would be appreciated.

According to the test range, anything over 1.0 is positive but most doctors will retest for results >1.00 and less than 3.5. You fall in that range. Your doctor may want to consider the Western Blot. The blood is drawn at a local lab (Quest is one- request test #34534) and sent to the University of Washington where the actual test is performed.

You can contact the U. of Washington Community Services and they can send to your doctor/you/lab a specimen shipping kit and instructions.

My insurance covers Lab Corp. Do you know the test number?

Thank you!

Sorry I do not know their test number. Your doctor should be able to order the test at just about any lab that handles blood though.
