I have been hearing a lot about the positive results of a clinic in Mexico run by a Dr Aguilar who treats the kids with FGF2 ( Fibroblast growth factor ). apparently non- verbal kids have become verbal within a few months !

Apparently the theory is that autistic kids are lacking in this chemical and by adding it through injections this deficiency is overcome.

Now I have no doubt that this treatment has worked in the short term ( in fact I know a couple of patients directly ) . My concern is the long term effects of adding this chemical which will work on not just this part of the brain but on other things that do not need fixing and end up causing long term problems in other areas.

There are no studies by any of the major health bodies and FGF2 remains unlicenced in the US . If it is so effective then why is it only used in Mexico and nowhere else in the world ?
I am desparate for my kid to talk but not at the expense of his long term health.

Does anyone know anything about this treatment ?
