Is there a specific test to check for asthma?

Yes there is. I had asthma testing done in december. Actually the same week of christmas. I believe it is a lung function test.

Mine consisted of three steps of testing. It was a lot of holding my breath and blowing out all my oxygen for as long as i could and they read it on a computer.

Tip: if you have it done and dont want any pain, dont let them take a blood sample out of you wrist. My test guy tried to and said that is was a very precautionary test that 99% of the time showed nothing. As you can believe it is very painful there and they can just as easily poke ur finger and get the blood they need for one of the tests showing your oxygen levels.

Thank You very much for this info. I have a question though. Lets say if I have a bruised rib, or a big pain in my back, that is likely to affect the way I breathe, or at least the rate at which I breathe, right? Does that mean that the pulmonologist won't really be able to diagnose something as asthma because their are other factors weighing in on my breathing? Or will the pulmonologist still be able to tell if there is asthma or not?

That should not be an issue...but if it is, they can always redo the test if they see oyu are having a problem.
