I injured my big toenail from playing basketball about 3 weeks ago. There was bruising/bleeding under the nail and I stopped for a while until it felt better. I played again recently and someone stepped on my toe. I take it I should stop completely for a longer time now. My questions are:

1) How long should I not do anything physical (running, sports, etc)? Should I wait until the new nail fully grows back in?

2) How should I continue to treat my toe nail?
I have just started soaking 1-2 times a day in water and hydrogen peroxide, make sure it dries, and apply Neosporin around the nail once it dries. I don't think the nail bed is exposed, but I'm not 100% sure due to the dried blood that I can now see as the nail has grown out. I will continue to wear white socks, loose shoes and sandals.

3) About how long does the nail take to fall off, and what should I do to continue treating it once it does?

Thanks for your help. The other various related posts definitely were helpful.
