Has anyone here been on lexapro for their depressive symptoms of bipolar? I am worried about weight gain! My pdoc has just put me on this.

Hi Llama
I was on Lexapro for quite some time, but that was before I had been diagnosed with bipolar. I took it for almost two years but quit because it wasn't really helping me. Looking back, that's probably because I wasn't being treated for the right thing. However, it did not make me gain any weight, if anything, it made me less hungry and I lost weight. I hope that this helps....

Thank you strawberry! It does help! I'm glad to hear that someone didn't gain weight on this drug. I hope the same happens for me.

I didn't gain any weight either, but I wasn't on it long. It sent me through the roof -- was very activating, even a tiny dose. I had to stop after a week, and in that time, I lost weight.

llama,
i am taking 20mg of lexapro/day to boost mood stabilisers and it has never caused weight gain. on it's own however, i did have some awful side effects but with the others i am fine. hope it works for you.
