My Doctor is suggesting Lamictal for mood disorder/anxiety, does anyone have any thoughts about it they could share, I am a little nervous about the side affects I am reading but she said this is the only mood stabilizer with no weight gain side effects? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Just like how does it make you feel and so forth???

Lamictal doesn't usually cause weight gain, and it hasn't in my case.
What sort of mood problems are you most prone to? Lamictal works very well on depression, not so well on treating/preventing mania.

I haven't had any noticeable side effects from Lamictal. It's my mood stabilizer of choice. I've had much better luck on it than any other mood stabilizer.

hi ladybug, i am currently taking 400 lamictal and it hasn't caused any side effects at all. i am about to go off it but this is because the current combination has stopped working for me yet again. sorry for digression, no i wouldn't worry about lamictal, it seems to be one of the few meds that doesn't have awful side effects.

Lamictal is a good med (for me anyways). It has zero side effects for me and I haven't gained any weight from it at all.

Thanks so much for all the feedback, if you don't mind me asking I am going back to the doc Wednesday so if you can provide me with some of the things it helped with would be great, I think I have much more anxety than anything else I am constantly worrying and obssessing over things I cannot control I have had a script for xanax for a while and I just hate to take them because I find that about 20 minutes after I am so hungry, I have tried a few antidepressant but they seemed to make me more anxious, the last one was prisitiq and the worst part about that was insomnia and also it did raise my blood pressure, I did find that after one month on it I was much more hungry that usual also? I have heard some good things about Lamictal and than all the bad side effects, I also do like to have a few drinks now and then that is way it scares the heck out of me to take any prescription drug, so I don't know I am very confused at this point as much as I would like to be on nothing I do think I need something?

Lamictal has mostly helped me with evening out my moods. I find I need other meds with it, because it doesn't seem to do the trick for me alone.
On another note, I do drink on this med. I know I shouldn't and you shouldn't either. I am trying to stop drinking altogether but it is so hard when you are young and just want to go out with friends. I know that is just a pathetic excuse though.
I hope that the lamictal works wonders for you.

hi, it prob had been suggested to you but you could print out what you have posted here and bring it with you along with anyother questions you might have. it is always easier to have something written with you as i know what it is like to have your mind go blank when you go in. good luck with it and let us know how you get on

Thanks Great Idea, I know I am 30 years old and there is always once a week I like to have a few drinks and I just want to make sure its not going to kill me, to be honest with you she is saying its not bipolar 1 or 2 but a mood disorder, I think ADHD since I also had the same problems in school. She now wants my mother or husband to come in so she can she what they think? The problem is I feel as when she ask questions she already has her mind made up or maybe its be IDK....I am thinking maybe it was a bad idea to even go and see someone, I was really hoping for something to help me concentrate more and control my appetite?

I really like lamictal. It's been my life stable again. I really struggled before I took a mood stabilizer. I do take small doses of ativan or risperdal for anxiety attacks/imsomnia as well. I'm on 200mg lamictal. No side effects, just feeling like myself again :D

I'm still working my way up to a maintenance dose of lamictal but I agree it is a good med to be on. I'm fairly stable with only mild short lived ups and downs, and I'm noticing my confidence is much better than before. One side effect I am experiencing is headaches now and then but even those are bearable.

I've been on Lamictal for about 9 years. I've never had any side effects at all.

Lamictal caused my white blood cell count to drop to "dangerous" levels, so I had to be weaned off immediately.
It was no joke.
I'm taking Trileptal now.

I am on Lamictal 150mg 2x/day. I did not gain weight. it stayed the same. The main side effect to watch for is the rash and your doctor probably told you about it. I have been on numerous anti-anxiety/mood medications (SNRI/SSRIs) and Lamictal has the least amount of side effects.
