I has lasik a week ago on one eye with the "custom cornea" wavefront all laser method from a reputable local surgeon who repeatedly assured me that side effects should be minimal. Why only one eye? Because I had RK 20+ years ago in the other eye and still have starbursts from the incisions to this date. I was VERY hesitant to try again, but relented after my spouse, who had somewhat similar eyes, but with a lesser prescription, had the same procedure about 4 years ago.
I was 20/400 in the lasik eye as opposed to her 20/200 or so.
Despite all the reassurances and more, I have rather pronounced starbursts. Intellectually, I realize it has only been a week, but internally I am really starting to panic. They keep telling me to give it time (1-3 months), but my gut is telling me I am screwed. My wife says she too had them, but they faded after 1-2 months. I can't help but think I'll never be so lucky.
I am curious as to others' experiences with starbursts and how long, if at all, they faded or better still went away. Don't have any other symptoms--no dry eyes or ghosting, etc. Just starbursts and slight haloing.
Any input/experience?

I hate how they reassure you that everything is going to be ok, then they make you sign your life away saying that you won't sue when something goes wrong. This industry is so $%#@ed up, I can't believe they are getting away with ruining peoples lives like they are doing.
If the starbursts don't get any better try alphagan p it shrinks the pupil size so that when its dark out it does'nt expand out past the zone that was lasered.
While I am only 1 week post op, I am hoping for an improvement. My wife who had the same procedure said it took some time for her starbursts to fade and even now she can at times slightly discern them.
Any stories out there for hope?
If the starbursts don't get any better try alphagan p it shrinks the pupil size so that when its dark out it does'nt expand out past the zone that was lasered.

I'm about 5 weeks post op and I can tell you that I am seeing improvement from what I was 1-2 weeks ago. I'm hoping they will keep getting better and will let you know what I'm experiencing!

Well, here we are 12 weeks out and I STILL have the damned starbursts. Not as bad as the first week, but still VERY noticeable and annoying. The doctor's office keeps telling me that "it takes 3-6 months", but I am having trouble seeing how they could spontaneously resolve. I am beginning to think they lied to me. For their sake I hope this is not true.
Does anyone have experience with starbursts getting better 4,5, or more months out? Anyone? Thanks in advance.

The only conclusion I can reach is that the doctor either lied or is grossly mistaken. There has been NO, and I mean NO change in the last several weeks. I met with the doctor, who said to give it time. Easy for him to say...
It would appear larger pupils are an issue. My 7mm pupils responded well to a test of "alphagan p", which shrinks them. Night vision was vastly improved with the drops.
My advice to anyone with larger than 6mm pupils is simple: DON'T DO IT.
Is legal action next? We'll see......

Keep waiting and be patient............easy to say hard to do.
At 6 months I could not tell any difference/improvement from what I seen at 1 month and from what I read at 6 months starburst should almost be gone. Starburst were bad and contrast sensitivity was terrible making nighttime driving darn right dangerous -but- just a couple of weeks ago (about 9 months post op) I noticed my night vision was great! Not perfect but way better.

I have not experienced these, thankfully, but have gone through the 'halo' effect people speak of. It dissipated within 6-8 months, if this is any help to you !

my starbursts are still occuring a yr after surgery.
