We have just been told that our son has both testes undescended and will need an ultrasound scan to help detect them followed by an examination and operation by a specialist. We are worried about this - can anyone offer any advice or is anyone able to tell us there experiences of the same problem with a child of this age. Also does aynone have any idea how this might affect our son's fertility.
Will be pleased to hear from anyone who can help.
Many Thanks

If anyone, only your doctor can tell. Certainly no one on the internet can give you that answer, since we can't examine him, and are not doctors.
Best of luck with your little man.

My son had surgery when he was 2 for the same thing. He bounced right back, and has a high sperm count..he's 24 now...don't worry...he'll feel better.

My 5 year old nephew had this done recently and bounced back just fine. I believe they could not save his one testicle though and he was left with just one. It made my sister in law sad, but overall he is fine and healthy.

My only question is why it has taken 9 years to discover this? Testicles descend very early in most boys (under 3 months), and while I'm glad there is positive experiences to go on...your son is old enough to feel terrible embarrassment by this. I'm not trying to be insensitive, but just wonder how this got overlooked for 9 years?

I wish your son the best, and a healthy long life.
