I got diagnosed with PCOS back in Feb. of this year. I went on Metformin to get rid of the cysts. The Metformin was really hard for me to take and it still is. I can only handle 1000mg a day when I am supposed to be on 1500mg. I figured something was wrong when my period stopped back in Jan., I gained 35lbs, and I am breaking out like a 16 year old girl thats when I decided to go see my OB. Now My husband and I have talked about getting pregnant but its just not happening. I still havent gotten my period back and I am slowly losing the weight. So far 5 lbs. But Nothing seems to be going back to normal and we really want to get pregnant. Has anyone else had luck getting this to go away? Or even just getting pregnant with PCOS?

My question also. Anyone being on Metformin, how long until you had a period after starting it? Cause I haven't had one yet.

Hi Melissa,

I have PCOS and have been on Metformin before the birth of my darling daughter and now again after her birth. I know how frustrating it can be when you want to loose weight and it is just not happening. I gained 9 kg after I went off the pill to try get pregnant (pg) I did not know I had PCOS. I did not get a period and the gyn told me that it could be the aftermath of the pill and to wait 6 months, well six month later still nothing. I then started taking HRT's to try and get my hormones regular and then I started clomid to help me ovulate. After 4 cycles I got pg but lost it at 9 weeks. I then went to a RE and he diagnosed me with PCOS. He put me on Metformin and then we started fertility treatment using Gonal-F injections. After 3 cycles I was pg and my daughter is 8 months old. The metformin made me feel terrible and I was constantly on the loo. I was on 1700mg per day. After giving birth my gyn gave me a slow realease tablet and I have not had any side effects either I have also lost 25kg (I gained 18kg with my pg). Ask our dr if you get the slow release glucophage (metformin) there. As for trying to get pg I would go straight to a gyn who deals with IF so that they can guide you in the right direction.

Good luck I hope I have helped.
