Hello everyone,
I have been taking 25 MCG Fentanyl patches for the past 6 years due to two bulging disks in my neck and back as well as fibrositis. I admittedly was taking 10 MG Vicodin before the patches but quickly developed a problem with taking way to many (I was taking up to 10 a day, usually 4-5 at a time. I went to see my doctor and asked him to take me off the pills because I realized I had a serious problem. He put me on the duragesic patch which I have been on for almost 6 years (25 Micrograms changed out every 48 hrs).

I recently decided that I am sick and tired of the side effects of the fentanyl patch (extreme lethargy, lack of motivation, problems sleeping, etc). I went to see my doctor who has now put me on Suboxone (i had never heard of this) but understand it helps people with high opioid dependency. My current dose is 8MG/2MG sublingual per day (1/2 tab disolves under my tongue) every 12 hours. HERE ARE MY MAIN CONCERNS.....

1. I also take 1MG Xanax CR one every 12 hours (two pills a day)
2. I also take 1 350 MG Soma every 8 hrs (three pills a day)
3. I also take Pristiq (an antidepressant) (one 100 MG pill a day for depression)

My main worries are the combinations of the Suboxone, Xanax, and Soma. If this is unsafe please let me know as I want to make sure I am not taking too much of something that could lead me to having further problems down the road. For the record I have an EXTREMELY HIGH OPIOID TOLERANCE because I have been taking them regulary now for the past 7 years. Any advice or experience would be greatly appreciated. DC-Georiga

I went to my trusty online drug-interaction sources- sorry I cant give you the websites names (against Board rules) and typed in all 4 of your drugs.
No drug interactions were found, so, in theory, you should be fine taking the suboxone with your other meds.
However, your doctor should definitely be monitoring you for a while since none of these drugs are innocuous and have the potential to interact. (That's according to one of the sources I went to).

If you still feel a bit anxious about it, since I'm not a doc, your local pharmacist will definitely be able to answer any questions you have.

You are very welcome.
It's a long, tough road but you sound really determined and full of resolve.
Hang in there.
