View Full Version : Cramps? Or Kidney problems?

I'm 24 years old and am experiencing extreme pain in my lower back/side...right around my hip. I am just finishing my menstrual cycle and assumed that it was just pain from the joys of being a woman, as I usually get something similar when I'm on my period. However I am now going on 3 days of this pain and nothing seems to help. I've tried Tylenol and muscle relaxers that my doctor gave me for bad menstrual cramps. But nothing eases the pain. I can't find a comfortable position that doesn't hurt. I can't walk, can't sit, can't stand, can't even lay down without it hurting so bad it almost brings tears to my eyes. I've been drinking lots of water in case it is a kidney infection or a kidney stone, so I've been having to urinate a lot more. But there is no pain with my urination. It just seems to happen faster, more sudden urges. I've been on my period for the past week, so I can't tell if there is blood in my urine or not. I'm extremely tired, can't seem to keep my eyes open at work and I've been getting cold chills one minute, then hot the next. I felt like I was running a fever yesterday (sweating while shivering, pain all over and headache)...but I didn't get a chance to take my temp, so I don't know that I was. Today, I'm getting cold sweats.

Any thoughts? I'm posting this in both the women's health and kidney section just to see if anyone has an idea if it's one or the other. I can't tell if it's just really bad pain from my period, or something different....
