I am waiting on a hearing date for SSDI and was wondering do i need to send in all my medical bills to my lawyer in the mail or just keep them all.
I have no health insurance to pay these bills or income coming in.
Thanks so much..

What could the lawyer do about it? Even if you get approved for SSDI, they won't pay your past due medical bills. Medicare kicks in 2 years after you start getting it...if you get approved for ssi then you get retroactive medicaid from 3 months from application. but that's it. sorry.

As long as your lawyer has all your medical records, he does not need anything else for the hearing.

Is your lawyer trying to find you help for financial hardship? Like armyofone0508 said, the SSDI is not going to pay your back medical bills.

Hopefully, you will win at your hearing, and get enough back pay to take care of the bills.

I thought if you get SSD and it's been longer than 24 months since you applied they will cover those medical bills?

Ex: you applied in Jan of 2005
Approved Jan of 2009

wouldn't your Medicare go back to Feb of 2007 and pay those bills going forward?

In your situation with no health insurance and no income coming in, Most definately yes mail copies of medical bills to your attorney.

Your situation can definately become Dire Need .
Unpaid medical bills , unpaid utilities and such is a good source to prove
Dire Need.

Your attorney needs to know this so your Hearing can possibly be scheduled much sooner.

I was in this situation, my attorney notified social security of my situation.
A 3 year wait financially drained me. Hope this does not happen to you.

it may prove dire need, but you have to remember how many people are applying for it and what area they are in. still probably wouldn't matter. and to the lady who asked about the two year thing, no...only medicaid will backpay 3 months worth of unpaid bills....but only if you qualify for ssi first.

Depending on what approval date you may receive, you may be able to file your medical bills on medicare. The only catch is that you would have to pay back premiums on Part B (covers doctor's visits, tests, etc) to be eligible for the time you want them to cover. As for myself, my catch up on the Part B premiums was in excess of my regular insurance copays, so it was not economical for me to have coverage back to my qualifying date. But if you have no coverage at all, it may help you to recoup some of those medical expenses you paid out. You will get a letter telling you the date you qualify for Medicare and giving you that option to take from the qualifying date or the date of your first check and then you can make the determination. Part B runs me 96.40 a month, so you would have to figure out if you will come out by paying all the back premiums or just letting it go.

Yes it would matter, i went through this and that's why i'm offering my opinion on this topic. My hearing was changed to 3 months earlier , my attorney fought for this. i had unpaid medical bills, no income, and i needed much more medical care. Littlelady is in the same situation stating unpaid medical bills and no income and waiting for a hearing.

Happygirl & goldyfm you both stated all this very well about the unpaid medical bills and medicare, you are so very right.

Having gone through so many issues discussed on this board is a great help to others. If i can help. i'll give my opinion as many of us have gone through this long stressful process.

I have so many medical bills right now and still don't know whats going on with my back.I am afraid since i don't know whats wrong with me and what doctors i have seen does not know i might not win my case.
Happygirl.. the only income i have coming in right now is i sell at the flea markets every now and then to give my room mate around 10-20 a month. Thats it. I don't even make 100.00 a month.I need to call my attorney in the moring again and let him know i cannot find a free clinic in York County and see if the can help me. They don't get any money unless they win my case.
I was thinking about going to the emergency room in the morning and seeing if they can help me figure out whats wrong.
I am getting very worried because my left leg is numb about 80% of the time and the pain in my back is so bad.

littlelady, I don't know if you've tried a chiropractor, but I've had good luck with them. They will do a thorough evaluation and explain what appears to be wrong, and may even recommend the person see a particular kind of doctor. Their specialty is back pain. If it is a pinched nerve, they can usually help with the pain. If it is problems with the disk or problems outside their specialty, they will refer you elsewhere. I have had pinched nerves in the past (neck, back, arms), and they always helped me. More recently, I have severe SI joint movement problems due to hypermobility that cause a lot of pain, and have gotten a lot of relief from my chiropractor. Visits in my area run $45-75. When you get approved, insurance should pay part of the fee. I finally got my father to go, and they discovered he had major shoulder mobility issues, and sent him to his regular doctor to get an MRI done. Turned out he had torn rotator cuffs in both shoulders and they set him up for an operation immediately. My dad had been dealing with the pain for years, with regular doctors giving him muscle relaxants and claiming it was "old age".

Good luck finding someone who can tell you what's wrong. Once you know, proper treatment can begin.

I have been to chiropractors and they done several things and said that there was nothing more that they could do. I went there for 7 weeks while i was working. That was 6 years ago. They did say i had several pinches nerves in my neck and back.

Each chiropractor has different techniques. I've been going for 25 years, some help me, some don't. I move on when one seems to have reached the limit of their ability to help me. I hope you eventually do find a doctor of some kind who can figure out what's going wrong. Pain is a major stressor and makes everything else more difficult.
