Hello,
I'm 28yrs old and I had a hysterectomy in May,2000 due to chronic pelvic pain, sevear bleeding, and an 11yr history of endometriosis. I kept both ovaries in hope's to avoid menopause at such a young age, but now I am going in on 1-8-01 to have them removed due to tumors, cyst's, and endometriosis.
I am terrifyed(sp?) at the hormonal changes my body is going to go through. My gyn say's I will be able to start hormones right away, but will they take effect right away? Just how bad is menopause?........Any advice or words of wisdom would be appreicated, thank you so much in advance.
Trish

I, too, had a TAH and lost both ovaries at the age of 29. I started hormones in the recovery room. You may e-mail me privately and we can talk if you wish.

Hi Trish:
I too suffered the same way you have with Endometriosis at an early age. I had a total hysterectomy at age 24 in which I was thrown into an early menopause.
I'm going to be honest with you, it is going to be rough for a few years. I am now 35 and it has gotten better as long as I take my hormones everyday. If I miss just one day, I can tell.
If you want to talk more about this. Please email me at palarin@email.com.
Good luck to you.......Marie

Hi...I had a full hysterectomy back in 96 due to the same problems as you. I am now 31 and still going through the menopausal difficulties. I was taking HRT, but the side effects were too much so I switched to Estroven (over the counter all natural HRT)
My main problem now is emotions. The physical aspect...the hot flashes, etc. I have either gotten used to or they are not as strong as they used to be. The emotional aspect is horrible, though. It is like a severe mid life crisis.
I wish the doctor would have given me more information on all the menopausal problems....he gave me the basics and that is it. The best advice? Research it on your own so you know what is ahead. Some women have very little problems; others have lots. Best of luck to you.

I also had a full hysterctomy at 25 due to endo. The dr put me on one hormone and it wasnt strong enough so I take 2 different ones now. One m-f and another on s-s. Its not easy. Somedays are worse than others. For me I ended up having to get on an antidepressant to deal with things and since that I am doing better. My advice is that if your having mood swings, night sweats etc.. dont wait tell dr and try different things till you figure out whats right for you. I am better now. Still have bad days now and then but overall pretty good. GOOD LUCK

Hi I also had to have a laparoscopy TVH on 2-21-01. I had endometriosis on both ovaries, almost constant daily bleeding and cramps for 1 1/2 yrs, and an enlarged uterus. I immediately went into menopause the next day after surgery :( . I am on Cenestin and still have some pains. I would love to talk to anyone about this. I have noticed that there are so many of us who have had to go thru this and it is nice to be able to talk to women who have had the same experiences :)
