Hello. Two days ago my Endocrinologist informed me that I have Renal Parenchymal Disease. She said my kidneys are functioning at 40-50% at this time. She referred me to a Nephrologist but I can't get in to see him until the very end of September.

Does anyone here have this disease or information about it? What treatments did you get and did you have success with it? Is this something that can be fixed with an operation or with medication?

I asked my Endo what could have caused this but she says she can't say what caused it because more testing will need to be done to determine that. I did have a kidney operation in 1994 and the doctor accidently cut a main artery during the surgery. The Endo said it's possible the scar tissue from this is what's causing it. I do have mild arteriosclerosis which I guess could also be causing part of the problem I'm having.

My blood pressure is now being controlled with an ace inhibitor (Enalapril) but now that they've found the renal artery problem they are telling me to cut back to half the amount of Enalapril (2.5 mg) and take 5 mg of Amlodipine (calcium channel blocker). The Endo and primary care doctor suspect it's my kidneys that are causing the high blood pressure.

This is a pretty scary thing for me as it came on all the sudden a couple of months ago with the high blood pressure going all over the map. Finally the doctor got it stabilized with Enalapril, for the most part, but now that i found out I have Renal Parenchymal Disease I am wondering how this is going to be treated and what to expect.

If there is anyone here who has this and could share some information with me I would sure appreciate it. It's not easy having to wait two months before I can see the Nephrologist and not know what to expect.

Are there certain foods, vitamins and medicines that I should absolutely avoid? Is there any natural products that would be good for this disease that I should consider taking? Any input you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Gary
