I trust old, retired doctors. They don't have much to lose; they're not practicing plus they've seen it all.
Dr Rosenfeld today said hormones are "ok if you are having severe symptoms such as hot flashes but only for a short period of time."
I'm a goner, then. I've been on Premarin for 17 years.
Nice knowing ya.

My mum must have been on it for close to 30 years, she has discussed it with her doctor who basically said she was doing fine and to continue! Ho hum!

It's been all over the news today about the dangers of taking the synthetic type estrogen/progesterones. They discontinued the study after 5yrs. when they were going to study it for 8yrs. There are significant finds of alot of problems with these meds. Diana

None of this makes any sense to me. We've been told so many different things that frankly I'm tired of it all. What are we supposed to do? For many women HRT is the only relief they have from the he** of menopause. It's not living when one has to be miserable with debillitating hot flashes, loss of sleep from night sweats and horrible mood swings that can make you feel like you're losing your mind!! I'm perimenopausal and on a low dose BCP. I feel great except for the week of my period. I truly believe I would not be coping so well if it weren't for the pill. As to what I'm going to do when I finally become menopausal, I don't know. Yes, the NIH study is alarming. BUT, how many of the women diagnosed with heart disease or breast cancer would have been diagnosed with it anyway whether they were on HRT or not. I'm sure we've not heard the last of this debate. The pharmacist in my town makes a hormone cream for me with no progesterones. It suppose to be really close to the way our body makes estrogen. It's called 'Tri-est'. Only 10% estrodial, and 10% estrogen, and 80% estroil(which is plant based.) I've also been taking the plant based progesterone. But I'm planning on switching to MACA which someone posted on the thyroid board about.

I feel alot better than I did on the Tri-est. The other HRT's I've been on gave me awful side effects....So far so good. It's been about 5months now. Any one else ever heard of Tri-est? Diana

I also saw the news report last night about the study being discontinued due to the possible harm to the women in the study. It was on the front page of yesterday's newspaper "Kansas City Star" also. It is alarming to read and hear about all of the warnings about HRT. I have been using the progesterone cream during my peri-menopause and am very satisfied so far.
