I just started high blood pressure medication 2 1/2 weeks ago toprol-xl 25 mg. I have always had a normal period, until this time (the only time that I had 1 this way i was pregnant). It is almost non existant. Can this medication affect the menstruation cycle to stop or would it be a sign of menapause? Does your period just stop all of a sudden? I have been reading some of the symptoms that others describe and I have none of these but I am 46 years old

the best people to ask about what your high blood pressure medication can and cant cause is the drug co who made it...im sure you got some literature with rx...get the companies name and go on line and get their tele nmbr from their webiste if its not in the literature.........

Call your pharamcist in the morning and ask about this drug. You most likely didn't read your literature that came with the drug and this is the first thing you should do when you start any drug you are not familiar with. I doubt that Toprol is the cause of your scant period. It could be a sign that you may be peri menopausal or is there any chance at all you could be pregnant? Stress can also change your period and if you were stressed about the diagnosis of Hypertension that could possibly do it too.
