My mom said that lately the past couple of times she has gotten her period it has been extremely heavy, scary heavy, does any one know reasons why this could be or how much blood is too much?

Depending on how old she is she could be starting menopause. This can cause heavier than normal periods. She should go in and see the doc to get this checked out just to be on the safe side. Encourage her to get this checked out just for peace of mind.
