i am 46. i have been having symptoms of perimenopause for a while, mini hot flashes, light and short periods etc.
i started my period yesterday morning. around 4:AM this morning i woke with extreme dizziness, it was so bad its what woke me up. then i started having the mother of all hot flashes. not being much of a sweater i was surprised how much i sweated. i thought i was going to get sick. soon it went away and i started to drift off to sleep again when the dizziness occurred again followed by another hot flash. this happened four times. is this normal? i never heard of the dizziness associated with menopause.
thanks in advance for any info...oh yeah is there any herbs or some kind of food i can eat or take to help me through this time? i hate to go on htr as i had a blood clot years ago.

Dizziness can be very common with menopause....By all means call your trusted health care professional and seek individualized guidance from her/him. Best wishes!

Hi, In one word YES, dizziness can and is often a 'symptom' of perimenopause. I had my thyroid checked (normal) and my ears looked at (some fluid behind the drum) but my dizziness or 'wooziness' as I refer to it is from 'the change'. This is such a fun time of life.....NOT. Talk to your healthcare provider and get checked out, but it sounds like you're going through the same thing as the rest of us are. Ally

Define dizzy? Dizzy as in light headed or dizzy as in the whole room is spinning around. If you mean the things were actually spinning then this is Vertigo and should be checked out by a doctor. If you just felt light headed or unable to focus etc then it could be menopausal.

Hi, I am 40 years young (smile), I have perimenopause and I know how you feel about the dizziness. I suffer from allergies so part of my dizziness (feeling like I am walking sideways) was caused my perimenopause, anxiety and I had vertigo. My regular doctor checked out my ears and said it was fine, I went to an ENT and said I had vertigo THEN went back to my doctors and he prescribed me meds for it. It helped alittle with my dizziness and balance. I take Xanox for my anxiety and just started on low estrogen birth control pills for my perimenopause. I also have problems focusing - does this get better? Hang in there and make an appt with your doctor to discuss your symptoms, be very firm with your doctor, you know how doctors can be now adays. :) Hope you feel better.

i went to the doctor today. yes it was more than just dizziness. i woke this morning at 7:30 and was totally unable to do anything for three hours because of vertigo. i nearly fell over from it in the shower 3 times. i couldn't turn my head or look up or down without suffering. i was really scared so i called the doc. mine was out on vacation so i seen another doc. he diagnosed me with BENIGN PAROXYSMAL POITIONING VERTIGO. it where tiny deposits that is normal to have in the ear gets into the canal of the inner ear. it get trapped and causes the morning dizziness. the doc did some manuvers on me to try to make it leave the canal and i have some to do at home. he said hopefully thats all it will take. then stupid me read about it on the net and read where someone had it for 20 years. uh kill me first.
its awful

I have had ear problems as a child, I used to just fall off the curb. It went away as a teenager but noticed that everytime my allergies or a flu attacked me, I would have that same feeling. The doctor(s) really didn't did any further tests regarding my ears even so I gave them my child history and told them the dizziness etc. Thank God they finally diagnosed me with the Vertigo. The previous 3 weeks, it got to the point that taking a shower freaked me out. Everytime I would move I got sooo dizzy, I would hold on to the side of wall. I had a check up on my ears, I had some amount of wax where he took out...OUCH..I am over the flu, did take the Antivert for 3 days and feel alittle bit better. I can't get over someone having it for 20 years......why didn't they do something about it???? How miserable. Is there something we all can do to prevent this from happening again? I have been nervous driving until I feel 100% better, and I am sure the other people of the road would agree...lol. Is there anything he gave you?

Oh man, vertigo sucks and I feel for you. I get a case of it now and then.....once I thought I was falling over (I wasn't) so I jerked myself to the side to try to right myself and then I really did fall over. Another time it woke me up from a deep sleep and made me fall out of bed. And sometimes I would wake up from sleeping and get sick into the trash can next to my bed. I agree with you...how could someone stand it for 20 years? You'd think he/she would have had multiple injuries from it by now.
Good luck, I hope you get well soon. If the ear manipulation doesn't work ask your doc for a drug called anitvert.
