Would be interested on feedback from perimenopausal women here regarding best methods for them re contraception at this point in their lives.

I'm 47 - been on a mid-low dose Pill for the past 20-odd years and have just taken a break from it only to find I am no longer having any periods. Experiencing severe night sweats and the other usual emotional rollercoasting that goes with all of this but am also very concerned about not getting pregnant now. Not sure if I should continue with the Pill (maybe a lower dose prescription) but need to do something especially as I am just coming to terms with the prospect that perimenopause can last about five years. Wow, what a thought - might just check out the naturopath for some plant based remedies to the night sweats in particular.

Would love to hear feedback on how you other ladies are coping in this area.

Hi Seahouses,

I'm also 47 (almost) and have been on the pill over 20 years. I'm afraid to take a break from it for fear of being thrown into hot flashes, night sweats, etc.

Why did you stop taking it?

From what I understand, until we are through perimeno and have not had a period for a year we can still get pregnant, so birth control is a consideration.

Ally
