I know anxiety is worse during menopause (peri or otherwise), I'm 43 (close to 44) and the past 3 periods have been really bad with anxiety! It starts on the day I get my period, then ends around the time I would ovulate - is this the normal TIME for the anxiety to hit??? I always thought it was from ovulation until you GET your period! I seem backwards, that's why I am questioning whether or not this could be perimenopause? Something always sets it off, something that would cause a normal person a little anxiety, but I get so bad I'm waking up at 3am every day with a racing mind, I can't eat, etc! Also I go through periods of depression and weepy spells (not like me at all before!!)

dear jersey girl
my anxiety starts two weeks before my periods, and slowly escalates into full on panic and distress. i cry all the time, feel extremely tired, just want to be left alone. near the end of the period i start to feel a little better but before you know it its back to the start again. i am on hrt and antidepressants am 51 years of age and now on a 26day cycle.

Have you seen a doc? I think you should. It IS the exact reverse of what you'd expect and perhaps for that reason alone you should get it checked out. I am in perimenopause (I think) and have exactly what you describe in the other half of my cycle. At the moment St JOhns Wort for the two problem weeks and a diet of 30g of soy as soy milk/tofu/soy and linseed bread (all the time to get about 30 g soy protein per day) seems to be working well. Maybe try it????
