Hi!
I have type 2 diabetes and I'm taking 10mg glipizide in the morning, and 2X 500 mg of metformin before bed.

I do a lot of online research about drugs and such, and I see that glipizide causes cardiovascular problems. Seems kind of silly taking a drug to lower your blood sugar as to prevent complications, but at the same time having it cause the very complications you want to avoid.

Has anyone had any problems with it?

I don't currently take it, but did for about a 3-year period sometime ago before my diabetes progressed into insulin dependence.

At that time, I could successfully maintain HbA1cs with no drugs, only diet and exercise. That, of course, is in the past for me now....but probably not for you.... you are on a light dose of it and about half the metformin you could take, you could probably drop the glipizide and only take the metformin by reducing your carbs, and maybe adding some exercise. Or maybe increase the metformin if you need to.

All drugs have side effects. Your doctor obviously has the opinion that glipizide will do you more good than harm at this point. If you hold your HbA1c good without it, your doctor will agree it's better not to take it....I think....

I have been on insulin and glipizide for 4 years. My doctor told me I can slowly come off
the glipizide if I keep my sugar under 200. I take Lantis and Humilin and I finally got my
sugar down in the one hundreds. It is because I finally started taking my diabetes
seriously. I have horrible nerve damage in my right leg and have been looking into my
options. Any suggestions
