I'm new to this board and have been reading many complaints about insomnia, heavy/irregular bleeding, emotional changes, etc., and that many of you are seeking out alternatives to HRT.
If you haven't tried acupunture/herbal treatments I recommend that you look into them. Many women I know -- including myself -- have had tremendous success with that treatment.
Personally I've been perimenopausal for two years and been suffering from terrible insomnia, crippling fatigue, heavy periods that arrived every three weeks, and NASTY mood swings including anxiety and depression. After having a health check by my MD to determine the symptoms were only being caused by the hormone changes, I sought out help from a local Chinese medicine clinic. Within two months of beginning treatment my periods were back on schedule and lighter, my insomnia was totally gone (asleep at 9:30 up at 7:00 like CLOCKWORK), and my emotional state and fatigue were improving. I've been able to reduce my acupunture treatments to once a month but still use the herbs on a daily basis. Somedays are still better than others and my symptoms can change from time to time, but overall, I have been thrilled with the improvement
I highly recommend checking acupuncture and herbs out if you are in an area that offers such treatment -- it can really make a difference.

Forgot to mention that I had also been suffering from the dreaded bladder urgency/frequency problems as well -- those were also cleared up by the treaments I received.

I found your post very interesting ... I'm wondering what kind of herbs you're using that help with all those symptoms, as well. I also would like to know if the herbs were prescribed by the acupuncturist, or do you do that on your own. I've been doing some investigating ... also wondering if anyone out there has found relief with homeopathic remedies.

I've also started Acupuncture treatments and have experienced relief from nightsweats. I'm hoping that my insomnia will get better too. He has me taking Chinese herbs on a daily basis as well. Today he worked on my neck, back and TMJ and my neck feels better already. I highly recommend trying it.

I'm still wondering which herbs are being recommended for which symptoms, and what kind of results have been realized by those of you who've tried this option.
