I had a total hyst 1 year ago. I've since been taking natural hrt from a compounding pharmacy. They work fairly well, except I have gained 5-10 pounds. Now, I know that's not alot of weight, but I excercise regularly, and have always eaten well, but it doesn't seem to matter anymore. It's all in my middle, and no matter what I eat or how little I eat, I bloat right up. It's driving me crazy. I talked with my doc, and am considering going off hrt, and taking over the counter herbal remedies. My question is: Have any of you done this, and am I likel;y to gain more weight if I stop hrt?

I'm not sure if it is age or hrt which is our enemy weightwise! I have always been a very big girl (yo yoing throughout my life!) but this past year, on HRT I have shed 30kg (still got a way to go, but a whole lot closer than I was a year ago!!). I keep telling myself that the loss has been slow because of the hrt but it is probably more because I am older and have done it so many times before that my body resists losing any of its insulation!

This time around I am low-carbing and it is a synch! I feel like a new woman (as much as one can at 53!!) Since giving up the carbs I feel much less bloated too, even around PMT time.

I am trying to cut back on carbs, but pasta, potatoes and bread are my life! :) How do you do it? What do you eat? and congrats on your weight loss. It's hard, especially at our age!

My eating habits didn't change but when I reached 47 I gained 50 lbs. I tried to cut down but nothing happened. My cholesterol count went down to 138 from 200, 200 being normal. Did I lose an ounce? NO. I try not to gain any more, seems like that's all I can do.

Antymuff, I can honestly say that losing weight has never been easier for me - I keep my carbs under 30g a day so no bread, pasta, pastries, sugar, starchy veggies etc. I eat meat, fish, eggs and (occasionally) cheese along with salads, low carb veggies like spinach, broccoli, cauli, asparagus etc. I have eggs and bacon for breakfast, sometimes a low carb protein bar or tuna/salad for lunch and then meat and salad for tea. Strawberries and cream for dessert are my favourite! Lots of water and a vitamin supplement. I am not saying that it would suit everyone but once I realized that the chronic indigestion and bloated feeling were linked very closely with my consumption of gluten/wheat products it was a synch! I am also exercising regularly - walk up the local mountain 2-3 times a week and rowing erg once a week. Now, if only I didnt need the jolly HRT, it would all have gone by now :)
