i do not believe in hrt..the risks in my opinion outweigh the benefits....

I guess it all depends on what you mean by "better". What symptoms were you hoping to do away with? If you havent got rid of your hot flushes, mood swings, irritability, creepy skin etc then perhaps it is time to have another word with your doctor. It may be that the dosage isnt right for you.

Some people dont believe in hrt and believe the risks outweigh the benefits - as is their right. For others, the benefits definitely outweigh the risks! I'm in the latter category. If HRT does what you want it to do, then, aware of the risks, make your decision.

thanks for your replys,i have read about the risks and the benifits and am willing to take the risks but at the moment i'm taking the tablet form-conjugated oestrogens and medroxyprogesterone acetate,in england it is called premique cycle. My symptoms are extreme fatique, mood swings, anxiety, heavy periods, night sweats.i'm wondering if the patch might be more suitable.Ginette

i think its dangerous to treat symptoms without knowing the underlying cause..you say you have heavy periods...i suffered with those for years..but along the way had procedures done to determine the cause..one being a biopsy of my uterus ...maybe i am confused here.why are you on hormones if you are not in menopause..

There's a very interesting post you could read about the hormones.

Go to the thyroid board. (the reg.thyroid board)

Look for the post called, 'information Archive'

Go to page #3 and read about Maca.

I've gone off of my nat. progesterone cream and started taking maca.So far so good. Diana

Good luck, Ginette, in your quest to feel good. You are so right when you say that some people are luckier than others when going through this phase of life. I'm also in perimenopause and my Dr. has me on a low dose BCP. This may help you as I know of women who have had rotten luck on HRT but have switched to a low dose BCP and feel lots better. I am on Mircette. Check with your Dr. as you deserve to feel good and enjoy your life. Ally

Diane,do you find the maca is working better than natural progesterone cream,i tried progesta-care by life force it didn't help so i was thinking of trying another cream but if the maca is better i will try that instead,i looked up on maca and its sounds good but i don't know of anyone else that as tried it,thanks.ginette.p.s how long have you taken it for.

I have been on it for two weeks now and finally my breast don't hurt, they had been extremly sore after a mamogram, that was done april 5th. Now that has gone away!!!!! Thank goodness. Other than that I feel really good. No side affects or anything. But it is awfully soon to say. The magnessium seems to help me in the muscles, bowels and sleep. I really notice that helping, and I've been on that for about the same time.

I had read that migable was taking it too, she really likes it, more so than the progest. cream. Might as well give it a shot. It suppose to work only where the body needs it. Diana

hello Diana,i have ordered some pro-gest by emrita,we cant get it in England so i've ordered it from internet site,if this doesn't work i will try the maca,do you know if you can use both together? i'm glad it is working for you,i stopped taking h.r.t last week i didn't feel any better so there was no point taking it.when i told my husband what maca is supposed to do for men he said order some, but it would be no use him taking it with me feeling the way i do,i've got enough problems as it is, ha ha ha.Ginette

I'm not exactly sure if you can take them together or not....maybe a pharmacist would know. But as far as the labido goes it would increase yours as well. LOL. That should excite the hubby.LOL. Not too familar with progest, is it plant based, that usually the best way to go.

Take care hope you are feeling better soon. Diana

Ginette, I am doing fine on the maca, no more hot flashes, just one hot mama, lol. Not really. I am on tri-est for estrogen replacement too. I had a total hysterectomy 6yrs ago. So far this is the best replacement I've found, it's pretty natural stuff, but I was still getting sore breast and some hot flashes, now with the maca that has helped so far. How are you doing, what type of symtoms are you dealing with? Diana

Ginette, stick with it for awhile, it does take some time for it to work, I have IBS too. I do the powder and tea thing for that. And I do drink alot of water, it took me one year to get used to drinking 9 glasses a day. Keep at though.

6 yrs ago, I had a total hysterectomy and I've tried lots of diff. hrt perscripts, I finally found one I like and it's as close to natural as you can get, as far as what a womens body needs. It's called tri-est, a pharmacy here makes it, it's a cream you apply to the stomach twice a day, very little is used. Thank goodness I found this, I feel so much better on it. But I was still getting the breast tenderness, the tri-est does not have progesterones in it. The maca has helped with that.

Another thing too. Have you ever had your thyroid checked...The thyroid dysfunction board, under the post 'information archive'(again) if you scroll down quite aways on the first page, there is a check off list for symtoms of thyroid dysfunction.

I hope you feel better soon, I know just how you feel, believe me. Diana

hello Diana, yes i have had thyroid blood test it was o.k, i will give maca a good try,i have also started taking something called Lepicol that is supposed to be very good for i.b.s,i have tried dozens of things over the years for this but the testimonials for Lepicol are good so i will also give that a good try.I read in another post that i.b.s has got worse for a lot of women during menopause,at least we are not alone.Take care, keep smiling. :wave:Ginette

Hi - please tell me: what is IBS and what is MACA? Thanks.

Jasmin

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Stomach pain (constipation or diarrhea)sometimes brought on my diet (i.e., dairy products).

Maca is an herb grown in the Andes. It was used as an everyday food and found that women did not suffer from either pms or menopausal symptoms. Also good for men's health issues too.

Here is the site macalady.com. Or search for maca herb.

I took HRT for 4 months and all I ended up with was an ovarian cyst. Forget the HRT and tough it out, and believe me it is (for me anyway) tough. Your mind can play games with you. I really feel if this was a man thing they would have something that works and not hurt you!
