Hi everyone. I'm new to this site and the "joys" of reocurring menopausal symptoms. I'm tapering off HRT from 4 years+ with my doctor's help. Taking 1.0 mg of Estradiol every other day. Symptoms are returning... night sweats, some dizziness, headaches, extreme tiredness... oh boy! What can I do? Herbs that may help? Read about black cohosh... Probably will take time to return to being me without HRT. High risk of breast cancer caused me to re-think being on the drugs. (Mom died of breast cancer at age 59) I'm 54 years old, a primary school teacher, and must be on top of the game everyday! Any suggestions. Thank you!

Hi Sue,

I am also 54 going thru menopause and live in Calif. I have been out of insurance and work for 6 months. So I went to HRT. They seem to work fine for me so I will let you know what I use and then you can make up your mind if they will work for you. OK? :)

This is what I use: GNC Women's Phyto-Estrogen, GNC Women's Evening Primrose Oil, Promensil, Estroven Extra Strength. I also use Oscal 500+D for Calcium etc.

My hot flashes have settled down, mood swings are getting alot better. The Estroven and the Promensil. Everything else i use is just to equal me out.

You try what you think is best for you, I have had Cancer also, but when you are in the situation i am in beggars can not be chosers.

Let me know what you decide I will be waiting and good luck, and enjoy Easter.

Thanks, Macheal. Your information is interesting and sounds great. Are the Estroven Extra Strength and Promensil prescription drugs? (HRT prescribed by your MD?)I'm trying to go completely off prescribed drugs due to my length on taking them (over 4 years now) and the added concern of my high breast cancer risk. Time will tell. One book author and recommended doctor, Dr. Northrup, a female gyn and latest provider of women's health information, suggests limiting caffeine and alcohol...both of which i enjoy in moderation. I just need my coffee in the AM and my glass of wine at dinner! I just want it all and at our age we deserve it- yes? http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif
Happy Easter to you and yours, Sue in CA

Hi Sue,

All the drugs I mentioned are non-prescription. The Estroven Extra Strength can be found at safeway, longs, rite-aid etc. The promesil can be found at most of those place also. I buy mine from Rite-aid, because they carry GNC products also. In the Promesil you will get coupons also and in the Estroven. I find they work quite well. Have had know problems. Yet, knock on wood.

I need my coffee also, but I also smoke, I find that one cup coffee with my breakfast then pills is better. The estroven has a little caffene in it. I am trying to quit smoking since it seems to make me a little jittier than normal. So the nicotine is not helping.
But the drugs will give them a try, it took about 1 month for everything to kick in. I also have a Herb book from Orchard that tells about all the herbs that will help with menopause. This sucks I know but I will tell you anything that I know, and hopefull others in this forum will help you out also. Go to the Remeron site and read what they told me.

Have a great Easter with the family.:

Keep in touch
