Anyone recommend some alternatives to estrogen prescription. I had an early meno at 36 and now 46. Been on estrogen ever since and have recently developed melasma. I'm wondering if my body can't handle the estrogen anymore. I did go off of it for a week and my skin brightened right up. I'm thinking of natural supplement but also want to keep the benefits for prevention of osteo etc. Ideas anyone.

Hi there. Have been telling my colleagues about how HOT I have been getting, even in the coldest weather. So hot I need to throw off my clothes as fast as possible. I am 46 and am told (but have not had blood work done to confirm) that this is probably the beginning of MP. Also periods have over the last two or three years become very erratic. Anti HRT is very much the buzz around here and most women I know are going the natural progesterone cream route. One of my friends has been on HRT since age 37. She is now 61 and has heart problems. ALL of her med. practitioners want her off the HRT (and in fact have taken her off). They have substituted with the progesterone cream. Maybe you should look into that. I am going off the pharmacy after work today to invest. I can't take the awkard feelings any longer! Post a note and let me know. Good luck. Originally posted by stprdi:

 Hiya. Really I don't know much about this menopause thing since I only realised recently that it could be the cause of my hot hot blowtorch episodes. I bought the progesterone cream yesterday. Applied it last night (1 ml) and again this a.m. half a ml. I really hope it works soon. I am most reluctant to go on HRT. Besides, the medical practitioners in this country (I don't suppose their view is isolated) believe that our diets and life-styles should be such that they take ample care of the needs of pre/post menopausal bodies. Cleary we do NOT need HRT - according to the experts. By the way http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/confused.gif can somebody please tell me what PERI-menopausal is? Bye for now. Take good care of yourselves.
