can anyone tell me how they feel about laparoscopic supra-cervical hysterectomy? I have to decide if I want to go through with this. The internet says its great, but no one actually tells you how painful it is afterwards. what are some of the things I should expect?

I can not tell you anything about that kind of hysterectomy. I had a total Lavh/bso without any pain at all. Everyone is dirrerent and we all handle pain differently. I can tell you about a great site you can go to and find out everything you need to know. It is Hyster Sister.com. I hope that this will help you make up your mind. Please do all the research you can before you make a decistion. Good Luck.

I am not familiar with the surgical procedure you just stated. Can you tell me a little more about it. Like what kind of incisions do they make. The less pain the better if you ask me. Also are you free from having any menstrual cycles or do you still have small ones?
The surgery I am thinking of doing removes your uterus completely through a inch incision made on the side of your abdomen. But its permanent. No more children and no more cycles.

I am sorry it's taken so long to get back to you. My hyst was a Laparoscopic assisted vaginal hyst. They use a scope that is inserted through or near the umbillicus. The uterus is taken through the vagina. I guess the cervics is also Im not real sure on that. Bso is both tubes and ovaries. I gusess it all comes out through the vagina. I have a very small cut in the navel and two small one at my pubic hair line. No more menstrual cycles at all. Everyone could not believe that I had had a hyst. It was the easiest thing I had been through and I have been through a lot. I was still of work somewhere around 8 weeks. And always remember that things are not the same for everyone.Everyone heals differently. I hope everything turns out well for you. Let me know when you are haveing it done and what kind they are doing.

Sopunds like if you have to have a hysterectomy, that's the way to go. I have a complete hysterectomy a little less than 2 years ago, but the dr cut a little over 6 inches long just above the hair line, to say the least, ouch. They way you are descrining it, sound like they do not have to cut any muscles, and that is what hurts the most.

Hello feeling young;
I thought I would give you my 2 cents :)
I would read as much as you can about all the hysts. I had a 7" belly cut with everything removed back in Aug 2002 (a week before my 35 b-day) I talked to the doc about the diff ways it could be done and I read what I could on it. There are good and bad with any way you choose. You have to way the good and bad with all of them.
Personaly I did not want the vag hyst because I heard and read that they could shorten the vaginal canel to much and then the sex would hurt. Being young I was worried about that ans so was my dh. I had my cervix removed also, but you dont have to have that removed if it is okay.
Here are a couple sights that you can post with who know alot about this to. There are ALOT of sights to get info. and Info is your best way to figure out what you want to do. Also if you have a partner I would talk to them also.

I had a complete hyst/with ovaries removed 3 weeks after my 23rd birthday.(Jan.2003) I have a scar from hipbone to hipbone. I'm not trying to scare you, but the pain was unbearable. As chelespiglets said, it's different with every woman. I don't know what I would have chosen givin the chance. All I can say is whatever you decide, expect some pain and discomfort, and know that we'll be waiting here for you to let us know how you are doing and to share your story. Good luck and I'll be praying for you.
