Oh my Mother, she is from the old school. She WILL NOT go to the doctors, she just refuses! Her menopause is catching up to her, she is 58 years old and has hot flashes all day long. Can anyone suggest a natural or over the counter supplements we can buy to help her out?
Any and all input is very much appreciated :)

i have heard excersise, even just walking, helps hotflashes, other than then the only thing that i know of that will help is estrogen replacement. I personally do not know of herbal hormone replacement, but i bet if you did a google search of herbal hormone replacements you're bound to find something.

Hello,

There are a few things she can take to help. I found out by research and asking the doctor.

Black Cohosh
Evening Primrose Oil
Extra Vit "E"
Soy

You can also get at the store diff kinds of meno help over the counter. Just look in the vit section and just read the back of the boxes. They all are about the same. But Soy and Vit E and Black Cohosh are the best and you can find most of them in one pill. I use a few diff things, I am 35.

Good luck. Also check the web, there are alot of sights that will help you. Here is one that you can check.

There are more, you will just have to search. Good luck and take care.

Hope I helped
Bye Chele

I am 23 years old and have two beautiful girls. Five months ago I had to have a complete hysterectomy, ovaries, tubes..everything removed. My doctor put me on Premerin the same day. I started having spouts of depression, irritability, migranes, and sudden weight gain. My doctor told me it was my body getting used to not having estrogen or hormones. When the symptoms starting happening worse as the months went on, I wondered if the HRT had something to do with it. So, I stopped taking it for about three days...Not one migrane. Not one depressing thought or feeling. On the third day without the Premerin, my 5yr old asked me if I was alright. I told her that I felt pretty good. Her reply nearly knocked me on my butt. She said that it was nice seeing me smile and happy again; and that she was wondering why I hadn't yelled at her for anything yet. That's when I knew that I had to take control and do something about it. I told my doctor exactly what I did and how my girls reacted to me off the HRT. So, we decided to investigate together my options. I'm free of the Premerin for a month now and I've never felt better. The hot flashes get worse each day, but I'd rather wait and find the right treatment rather than have depression, migranes, and see what I put my girls through unknowingly. And the severe weight gain...I was 105lbs the day I had my surgery. 145lbs five months later. A month free of Premerin, I'm down to 120lbs. I know my story is long, but my point is, please please don't settle for just any HRT. Menopause is a major part of a woman's life..especially for me being 23. Be patient and investigate your options hun. My months of torture had some good to it. My mom is 44 and is just now going through menopause. By watching what I went through, she knows to shop around for what works for her. Good luck and I hope I could help you in finding the right medicine that works for your own body.

I do hope you mother goes in for her yearly pap/pelvic exam though as these are very important. As for approaching menopause naturally follow all the suggestions you get and pass them along to your mother. Hormone replacement therapy is not for everyone so don't get down on your mother for not going to the doc to see about this. I for one have decided against HRT as hormones such as birth control pills give me terrific migraines plus I have a high family history of heart problems and cancer making it a bad choice for me to use HRT. I do nothing at this point and so far have not needed anything more than a mild antidepressant to help with the anxiety/sleep issues.
