So many questions I don't know where to start....I have another appointment on the 27th for the final consult and tests before getting scheduled. I would love to get some input.

Thanks again

I think we'd need more info. Why are you getting a hyst? What kind of problems are you having? What are some things that have already been tried and failed? Hope you get some answers. Hang in there.

Hi everyone,
Yes you are right.....I am the one with the posts about Hives and the Endometrial Ablation.
I have heavy bleeding and clots, Doc said the ablation won't work the endometriosis is to bad. My uterus is the size of being 5 month pregnant. I have real bad cramping and pain.

It does sound like the hyst is what you need. I've never had that procedure done. Maybe some of the other ladies can help get you through just exactly what is going to happen. Hopefully, after your procedure, you'll be good as new and all these crummy problems will go away for you.

Hi Lindarella,
Yes the doc said it's what I need to have done. I have a final appointment before surgery Tuesday. I am real nervous, scared.....but I want to get it over with.
I am stressed about being out of work that long too.
Also he said he would fix my bladder problem to while he was in there.

Please I would love some advise from women who have gone through this.......thank you

 Hang in there Declare...I had a balloon endometrial ablation 2 years ago...I believe we spoe before...I couldn't be happier with my results...that is to say I don't get a period anymore...I do believe I'm starting my change because of my onset of adult acne...hot flashes...mood swings...I get tested on Wed. You're going to need that time off to recooperate...You'll feel much better afterwards...no more heavy bleeding and all that other painful stuff. Good Luck to you...I'll say a prayer http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/t_up.gif

Hello, I don't know how old you are or what your deciding factors (besides pain) are for having a hysterectomy. However, I had a complete (cervix, ovaries, tubes, etc.) hyst almost 2 years ago. I will not lie, the surgery itself.. lets just say I'm glad you only have to do that once. I am 21 years old and had to have my hyst due to endometriosis, adenomeosis, adhesions, cysts, so on and so on. It is painful surgery, it took a little over a week to leave the house after I was home (with the use of store wheel chairs), I was in the hospital for 3 days, including surgery day. The first 2 months were the hardest. I knew menopause had side effects but I wasn't ready for some of them. I couldn't sleep at all the first couple months. At night it was hot & cold, hot & cold. I couldn't concentrate at all, and the weight I gained is devistating (40 lbs). Now, everyone is different hormonally and the way your body acts to the change. What happened to me may not even be close to what you will experience. Now that it is summer again I'm having hot flashes again. I changed my hormone replacement to depoesradiol, which helped a lot for the side effects, on the down side, it took my sex drive away as well. I get these aches in my legs that feel like grwoing pains, which is really weird. Mood swings are a big part of the change as well, but you learn to accept them and learn when you're having them. Just be sure you're significant other can learn to deal with them. :) It's been a hard couple years. I know it is time for my shot because I get a horrible migraine the week I am due for it. My suggestion to you is to do research, it is amazing what some of the side effects of menopause are, I looked up most of what i know now when I was going through my little insomniac stage (which has come and gone). On the brite side of things, once everything heals up there is no more stomach turning pain. A little advise, as soon as the doctor says you can, develope some type of work out as soon as possible, it will keep the scar tissue for building up and you weight gain, if any, to a minimum.

Hi Marilyn,
Thank you for your reply. It sounds like you have had a rough road to travel. And I am glad things are getting better for you.
My history is endometriosis(for years). I am 40 and my uterus is large, like 5 months pregnant. Alot of pain and heavy clotting. Bleeding twice a month. Also have problems with my bladder too. But my gyno said he would just take the uterus only and leave the ovaries. I have started perimenopause. Hot flashes, night sweats, not sleeping good, terrible mood swings. It goes on....I was going to just go for a Ablation but the doc said my uterus is too big and it would not solve all my problems....still going for tests I should get scheduled for surgery on the 4th of June.

Take care
Deb

Something to think about... The reason I put off having a hystercomy for 2 years is because I was afraid it wouldn't get all of the endo. I did nothing but research endometriosis the first couple years after diagnosis in search of treatment & it can be on your in any part of the reproductive organs not to mention it can travel to the bladder and even bowel. I had alot of problems with my bladder & uninary tract as well, i even had a proceedure to check out my bladder to make sure there was no endo on/in it. Thankfully there wasn't. Anyway, to get to my point, if you are going to get only your uterus removed, you may want to verify with your doctor you ovaries are not involved with the endo. When i had one of my surgeries I shared a room in the hospital with a woman that had just had her 2nd hysterectomy, the first time they took out her uterus & tubes. But she kept having pain and so forth and wound up having to get her ovaries removed. The ovaries are what control endometriosis growth, if they (ovaries) aren't there any longer the endo has nothing triggering it to keep spreading. I would hate to go through that kind of surgery pain twice, I'm sure you would too.

------------------
Post-menopausal 21 yr old. Hysterectomy in Aug 2001 after 4 laparoscopies, 3 D&C's, and a couple other diagnostic proceedures. Had endometriosis, adenomeosis, adhesions, cysts, an abnormally shaped uterus (like a heart) and much more

Hi Marilyn,
Thank you so much for writing me and giving me all this information. I will ask my doctor all these questions when I go on June 4th.
Your right....I do not want to go through it twice. I don't need my ovaries. His suggestion to keep them was to not send me into full menopause.....but you raised a good point there.
Once again THANK YOU!!!!!!!

Take care
Deb

Hi everyone,

Well the testing is done and the date has been scheduled. I will be getting a hystorectomy on the 21rst of July.
I asked alot of questions and I wanted to thank everyone for the input.
My Doc said that he will take my ovaries if they have the endometriosis...and will remove any endometriosis safely from other organs that are infected. He said the rest will fade away with menopause.
I will also have some bladder surgery too.

Once again thanks to all.
I will keep reading posts and also keep updating. This web site has been very helpful to me.

Deb :)
