Hi everyone,
I have made a few posts. I am the one with the hives and the heavy bleeding(clots) twice a month. Any way my doc said I am heading for a Endometrial Ablation. Has anyone out there had one of these?
And also endrometrious? (spell)
I love this message board it's a great place and I read it almost every day. Thank in advance to all.

Hi, Declare ~ I am new here also. I love this board, too ! :)
What is the condition that you've asked about ?
I knew people who've had endrometriosis, but I have never had it. Would like to know more about what you've mentioned, though. At least your doctor has the foresight to prepare you in an informative manner. That's good.

Hi there,
from what i was told by my gyno. it is a out patient treatment where they laser your uterous. actually killing the inner wall that sheds every month. it is better that having a hysto. you are only down for three days and you do not have any more bleeding after that. you see i have had periods a couple a times a month and very heavy clotting and pain, also my stomach is bloated so bad that i look 5 months pregnant. they did a biopsy on me and i am sceduled for a ultrasound on the 12th. then i will sit down with the doc after the results are in and decide then if this is right for me.
i hope i explained it ok.....
please excuse my bad spelling :round:

Oh, now I see. Well, it sounds a lot better than conventional surgey. It doesn't sound like it would be bothersome at all. If it helps your symptoms, I'm sure your doctor knows and has done the procedure many times. It's great to learn of these techniques. My gynecologist always said my uterus is in good condition, so I never had to read up much on specific uterine issues. Please post about how it goes for you ~ MrsKramden

About the hives...during the last two years of my period, I would occassionaly get a hive right before my period. Have you been told anything about that ?I always thought it was strange and correlated to my period.

Hi,
About the hives. I thought I was going crazy. I had many visits to my PCP and then finnaly ended up at an allergist. He said in some cases a women can become allergic to her pergesterone that we produce around our menses. Thats my problem....When they get bad i take ALLEGRA in the am and ZYERTEC at night. Or the old dependable BENEDRIL. I never thought I could be allergic to my self but guess again ;)
I will keep you posted....
Thanks for your comments and questions I think it's very informative....
ok question for you..... What have you been going through besides the hives?
thanks again Deb

Thank You bjg,
It helps to know these things. My mother had it done, twice. I guess they missed a corner in her uterus the first time so she went back and after the second time she completely stopped bleeding.
I hope they get me to stop all together....thats if they even do this I am still waiting for my test results.
Thanks

Hi all...I had a balloon endometrial ablasion on April 1,2002...I had very bad periods and my obgyn wouldn't do anything about them but keep me on the pill...well my tubes are tied and I didn't feel it was right for me to on the pill too...so I found a different Dr. and she suggested this...1 year later...I have a drop for a period...I'm not on the pill...I'm very pleased. It's actually the step before a hysterectomy...but you have to be sure you want no more kids before they do this. I see my obgyn at the end of this month...I'm happy now :)

Wow ! You may have answered something else for me without me even asking. ! :)
I don't know where to begin.
Okay. Firstly, before I menopaused, I had intermittant nausea, minor hot "blushes" (not at all like hot flashes that are mostly spoken of).I had intermittant trouble falling asleep. Oh, I am diagnosed as being menopaused by the way.I guess I started being tested right at the end of peri-menopause because I received the news only two months ago about being in menopause.I did not experience night sweats, lack of interest in sex, dryness or mood swings. I seemed to have all of the real but unusual symptoms ! LOL !
Now, in hindsight, in 1995, when I was 35, I had a tremendous bout with HIVES ! It was correlated and I summized it was due to being allergic to the additives (in the tuberculine solution) of a TB test I took. That was absolutely scarey ! I had to take prendisone which I took for a few days, called the doctor and said, "I will not take prendisone-wean me off of it, please!" He said the major flare up would return if I didn't take the prendisone. I stopped the prendisone and never had another flare up all over my body.
During peri, I would get one hive...either on my wrist, inside of my forearm, thigh or butt cheek or ankle. It would be ONE hive and go away the same day.(Benadryl cream is the only thing I used for that).
I started getting ringing in the ear once in a while and I have developed (much to my horror) carpal tunnel syndrom which began when I started peri(I estimated the time period). It's not bad carpal tunnel , but when I do the tapping test, the results are what carpal tunnel syndrome is.I so want to be in denial about this, but the arm tingles when tapped.
Now, you mentioning the progesterone-we can be allergic to our own- that makes me think about the nausea I had while my hormones were making a rush to change.Much of what I read about nausea during peri has to do with progesterone (I even had to go get that horrifc symptom!).
I wound up getting a gynecologist who is very into testing, biopsying (sp?), sonogramming all the time-very thorough. I also developed a functional ovarian cyst (it's fine-filled with water and due to not ovulating-causes slight dull ache once in a while). Also, (whew) I developed a pelvic inflamation which was tested and is not VD or an infection (this is the scariest symptom right behind the nausea).I recently read that pelvic inflammations can occur with menopause.
But I am glad to have changed over, really. I like it.

Hi Mrs K & Doe,
WOW I feel so great having these responces.
Mrs.K...you have had a time for your self....sounds alot like what I am going through. The hives, and yes I get the lone hive now too have not had a major flare in a couple of months. No one wanted to believe I was in Peri. I have had the night sweats, I look like I am 5 months pregnant....( and Doe I am 40 soon to turn 41 and my youngest of 4 children will be 18 so I called it quits I am not planning on any more :)
I had a tubal back in 1985. And I agree I don't want the birthcontrol pills either I refused.
Well I am still waiting on my results and my ultrsound test is this coming Monday so I will keep you all posted. Thank you so much.

Wow Mrs.K...you have had a great deal to deal with...I hope everything is well for you now.
Declare...I am so happy I had this surgery done...my periods were so out of control...I used to have to run to the bathroom every 1/2 hour and change...I'd go thru a super maxi and a super plus tampon at the same time...the size of my blood clots were bigger than a 1/2 dollar...my other Dr. didn't think about my complaints and just put me on the pill...my tubes had been tied for quite some time too...I hated being on the pill when my tubes were tied...so I found this new Dr. I Love Her...I know that when I go at the end of the month...I'll tell her my complaints and she'll listen...Hope everything works out for you :)

Hi Doe & Deb :) ~
Hi Mrs K & Doe,
"Mrs.K...you have had a time for your self....sounds alot like what I am going through."
You 'looked' five months pregnant, I FELT two months pregnant. The nausea was the worst thing for me as I can't deal with anything that has to do with that. I never actually threw up, thank God ! but I had the discomfort and the fear when that was going on. And I never knew when to expect it. There is so little written about this symptom. The good gynecologist gave me Emetrol for the nausea-it's fantastic. It seemed to begin five years ago-slight enough that it was easy to deal with and went away fast. Last year in June (almost a year ago) the severe thing started. My boss let me modify my work schedule and all. With the Emetrol, it went away. Didn't happen severe or at all in August , but came back for three days (over a weekend thank God) and the Emetrol helped. I felt like a chemo patient or something. I spoke to only one other woman who ever experienced this with peri and she gave me advice. The nausea stopped last September .(crosses fingers)
Yes, I am doing fine. I never had the heavy periods, but I did have small clotting toward the end.I guess we all have one or two major symtoms that feel the worst to us. I just feel a bit strange testing so early and being told I've menopaused with only missing a few periods so far.I haven't gone a full 12 months yet and fear I will get a period.(crosses fingers, again!) Just hoping I won't.My last period was December 30th , 2002.
Thanks for your posts !

Hi Mrs K and Doe, :round:
Mrs.K...maybe thats why I am popping Zantacs lately I have been getting heartburn. Real gassy to say the least. When I was pregnant for my first child 25 years ago I was on a medication I for got the name of it but I couldn't keep anything down. So I am sorry you had to go through that...I know how that feels and it is miseribale(spell). Still no word on my biopsy...still waiting.
And I just wanted to say that it is important to find a gyno that will listen to you and understand what your going through. I finaly found that doctor too and it's great.
Thank you for your posts....
Take care Deb

I had periods twice a month for a week each. My doc put me on the pill too, which was crazy.
I had the abalation done April 22. I was in crazy pain afterward for about 4 hours. Then it went away completely. I had a discharge for two days. I was back to work in three days. I have not seen a spot since, but my doc told me only 50-60% of women never get another period, but of the 40-50% that do, it's 85% lighter. He also said that there's a better chance of stopping the periods if a D&C is done right before the ablation because it scrapes the lining as thin as possible and the procedure (I had balloon) works better.
I would do it again in a heartbeat.

hi ssusanns,
thank you, i have a question though. did you have to ask for the DNC or did the doctor recomend it? i have only had one DNC and it was only a partcial.
my consult with the doc is on the 20th of this month and i appreciate the input so i am ready for it. my family has a history with this problem of endometriosis. everyone but my mother has had a hysto, she had the ablation.
and do you have to take any hormone treatment?
thanks again

Actually the doctor recommended the D&C. He said that the thinner the uterine lining is, the better the ablation turns out. Even with the extra procedure, it was still under an hour.

Hi everyone,
Well I had my visit with the doctor yesterday. He told me the ablation will not work for me. My uterus is to big. He told me it's like I am 5 months pregnant. I am getting scheduled for a hysto in July.
He said that the ablation would take care of the bleeding(maybe) but it would not help the other problems , such as pain and the risk of cancer. My endometriosis is too bad.......
I am a little scared here. I have alot to think about.
Please , I would love some opinions.....questions....

My mother was 72 when she had her hysterectomy done. She stayed in the hosptial overnight and then came home. Three days after she had it done, she was back to her normal self but couldn't lift heavy things of overdo anything. A lady at our church is 40 and had one done. You would have thought it nearly killed her. She milked it for all it was worth. Judging from both of these stories, I think it comes down to how you think about it. Anything can be bad if you make it. Go at it with a positive attitude and you should do fine. It sort of reminds me of when I had my 1st child. Some stories of childbirth scared me, and others calmed me. I went at it in a positive way with the good stories in mind, and had no problems and even had a tubaligation after my second with no problems.
Good luck in you endeavor. God bless!

To the ladies that mentioned hives:
I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw that someone mentioned hives, off all things. About 2 weeks ago, I was put on Prometrium (which is natural progesterone) that was to be for 14 days. After the first tablet, I knew that the drug was not for me. I was light-headed, woozy, nauseated,& so sleepy that I couldn't function the entire next day. But get this,I developed hives all over my forearms. It took me a couple of days to figure out what was happening. It seems that I have the rash only on my forearms, the skin that is exposed to sunlight. On my upper arm area, which is covered by my sleeve, I have no rash.
I talked to my gyn and was changed to Megace which has had no noticable side effects. I have never had hives in my life. It must the that Prometrium.

I am so glad I came here. I had posted in the Women's Health forum about a balloon ablation and nobody responded. I've had some questions answered already without even asking. Thank you. By the way, there are 3 types of endometrial ablations (laser, roller-ball and balloon). I have decided to go with the balloon because it sounds the safest and easiest. Am actually looking forward to it, as I have had a bleeding problem for almost 2 years. I'm tired of it.

Hi declare40 i read some of your posts.I also have been scheduled to have an ablation. They gave me a shot of Lupron they will give one more shot after this then do the ablation. They did a D&C but it didnt stop the heavy bleeding. They told me i have a large uterous.I hope this procedure works.I wanted to avoid having a partial hysterectomy. He said i wouldnt have it done vaginaly if they did the hysterectomy he said they would cut me cause my uterous is to far back to have it done vaginally. So i hope the ablation works.I have been cut in 3 diferent places already i had a c-section then second time pregnant cut in another spot cause there was too much scar tissue to cut inthe same spot. Then my appendix were inflamed 2 moths later so they cut me in another spot that was suppose to be small but took 18 staples.I also had my tubes tied while they had me open at the second c- section.I have been through so much and i keep gaining weight cause i also have hypothyroidism so i have an underactive thyroid. They are trying to get my dose straight.I never talk to anyone about anything and my boyfried says i have a lot of problems. He makes me mad.Like asked for al this.So did you have your procedure done yet?If so how are you doing?Tanks for listening.Take Care, Tami

Hi, all. I had an endometrial ablasion about 3 weeks ago and it was the best thing I have ever had done. I was released from the hospital about 2:00 p.m., slept thru the rest of the day and felt well enough on Sat to run errands w/my family. I am having a period right now that is so light that it is practically unnoticeable. Before I was going thru a super plus tampon ever 30 - 45 minutes. I know this surgery isn't for eveyone but it was the right choice for me:). Take care all.

I had major hives last week. Thought it was something I ate but got them again while camping this weekend - size of nickels all over my backs of my knees, wrists, tops of feet. Took benedryl and it went away. Not sure what caused them - didn't really eat anything different. My mom told me she had those too on and off.
