To read about lupus, your LOCAL LIBRARY is a cost-effective place to start. Three authors, all noted rheumatologists, cover the subject comprehensively: Dr. Daniel Wallace, Dr. Robert Lahita, and Dr. Graham Hughes. They discuss

what lupus is (how the immune system is malfunctioning)
symptoms (constitutional, skin, and all major organ systems)
diagnostic criteria and tests
various unwanted autoantibodies seen in lupus
degrees (skin-only vs. systemic vs. drug-induced)
how lupus is distinguished from other conditions (like mixed connective tissue disease, undifferentiated connective tissue disease, rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, systemic sclerosis, etc.)
treatments, including side effects
other conditions seen in conjunction with lupus (such as Sjogren's syndrome, antiphospholipid syndrome, etc.) .

And while these authors stand out for the amount of details they provide, there are certainly other helpful authors as well.
