I am a 48 yr old woman, almost 49, and this past month i have gotten my period twice. Just this morning i realised it was here again, a little over two weeks since the last time it showed up. Before that i was averaging about every three weeks. Is this a normal part of menopause or can it be something else. Has anyone experienced what i am experiencing right now? Thank you for any help.

If will do some background reading it is most likely normal, this was one of my first complaints, the only concrete one I could tell my doctor about. My periods came closer and closer together and were usually much heavier the first day or two.

The medical explanation is that your FSH (follicle
stimulation hormone) goes into overtime when the estrogen starts to fall, this is your body trying to jumpstart ovulation and your periods start coming closer together. Your doctor can determine this by a blood test. This is a simplified version, but you can read all about it.

This is common in perimenopause but I have been lucky enough that it only happened to me once. I am now headed way over to the other side of the scale where I haven't had a period since July 7th of this year. I dread the thought of having another one since I never know if or when I will get one but it is all part of the course of entering menopause.
